CHEMISTRY

extraction of metals:
metals occur mostly as a rocks on the earth's crust.
displacement reaction of metals:
the way that one substance to drive out with another is said
displacement reaction.
in this reactive more reactive metal can displace less reactive metal
from it's compound. a metal will always displace less reactive metal
from solutions of it's compounds. for example when iron is added in
copper sulphate the product is iron sulphate and copper. in this
reaction iron displaces copper from it's solution of compound this
because of iron is more reactive than copper or copper is less reactive
than iron.
competition between metals and carbon for oxygen
when carbon and some metals compete with oxygen carbon wins.
because of carbon is more reactive than less reactive metals. for
example when powdered carbon is added with lead (ii) oxide , carbon
monoxide and lead are formed.
carbon+ lead(ii) oxide → carbon monoxide + lead.
carbon is more reactive than lead. in the reaction carbon oxidizes while
lead reduces.
Carbon is more reactive than some metals it will reduce oxides of
their compounds to metal.

CHEMISTRY

reactivity
is the way that one substance to react with another substance to
produce new substance with new properties.
• more reactive metal able:
• to displace less reactive metal from it's compounds
• to displace less reactive non metal from it's compound.
what is the reactivity series?:
it is the list that put all metals in order of their reactivity.
• more reactive metals are at the top of list
• moderate reactive metals are the center of the list above the
hydrogen
• less reactive metals are the bottom of the list below the hydrogen.
useful things to remember about the reactivity series
1.the more reactive a metal the more it likes to form a compound
2.the more reactive a metal the more easily it gives up electrons. or the
more reactive a metal the more easily it form ions
3.the more reactive a metal the more stable it' compound.
4.the more reactive a metal the more difficult to extracted from it's
compound.
5.the less reactive the metal the more easily it is to extracted from it's
compound.
6. when two metals are connected in a cell the electrons flow from
more reactive metal to less reactive metal.
