One of my grandparent’s groups is Lasam Association of Retired Public Elementary
School Teachers (LARPEST). It was organized on the first day of July, 2018. Its purpose is to promote the general welfare and well-being of all retired public elementary school teachers in Lasam, Cagayan, regardless of sex, religion and political affiliation. Moreover, its objective is to organize a strong and effective working body that will help and coordinate with other civic organizations and other government agencies for the welfare of the retired public elementary school teachers, so that they may become productive, useful, meaningful and be filled with joy and happiness up to the end of their lives. The idea of the organization started when my grandfather together with 9 other retired employees receiving pension under GSIS from Lasam, Cagayan, attended a Christmas Party at Tuguegarao City. They happen to talked about creating an organization exclusive for retired teachers from where my grandparents formerly worked at- a public elementary school. Upon returning home, they scheduled a certain date of meeting with other retired teachers and discussed about the said organization. The other retired teachers were easily convinced with organizing the group, agreeing with the objectives and purpose of the Lasam Association of Retired Public Elementary School Teachers (LARPEST). Since the organization was initially focused on creating funds, Mrs. Nilda Corpuz, the prime mover thought of including the organization in her project, Tree Planting. She provided the seedlings which are planted at Brgy. Nicolas Agatep, Lasam, Cagayan. That was conducted before the lockdown. A member shall have the following duties and responsibilities: To obey and comply with the laws, rules and regulation that may be promulgated from time to time. To attend all meetings of the association, Non-attendance by the Board of Directors shall be fined two hundred pesos (Php 200.00) and a regular member of one hundred pesos (Php 100.00) if reason is not justifiable. To pay membership, annual fee, death aids and other assessment of the association. Any member who is delinquent in paying death aid dues for three successive death contribution shall not be entitled to the privileges and benefits after having been informed or received notice of collection. The organization is not registered but recognized by the Local Government Unit of Lasam. Aside from providing financial assistance to the members, the organization was made basically so retired teachers of public schools which are people my grandparents mostly socialized with in their long career as teachers can bond together as a family and enjoy their lives as they get older.
