English Department Meeting Notes- October 23, 2020

1. Reviewed the results of the benchmark test given and compared those results to how the
students performed on the English I or 8th grade STAAR test data.
2. Teachers picked the 15 most missed questions on the benchmark and will incorporate
those questions into their lessons over the next month. The question will begin as their
warm up question, then the teacher will center their lesson around the concept of the
question.
3. Students will be given a second benchmark, of shorter length because of time restraints,
as the semester test. Writing samples will be sent to the region center to be graded. The
region center will provide feedback to the writing samples.
4. Students who are considered “bubble kids”, will be put into English tutorials starting the
second semester.
5. Teachers will begin test taking strategies after the Christmas break.
6. Department will meet again at the start of the spring semester to discuss the results of the
second benchmark.
