Observation sheet week 3

 Prepare a cup of garden soil and sandy soil

 Pour some water to the soil
 Observe which soil between two will retain water well

Type of Soil Does it retain water well?

Explain your answer below
Garden Soil  Garden Soil can retain water well, because they have more porous
the soil, the more capacity it has to retain water.
 Tilling facilitates lots of temporary porous space in the top layer of
soil, so they can carry nutrients and water pass through of the
plant.
 Garden soil also have composition of organic matter that use for
plant growth
Sandy Soil  Since sandy soils cannot hold either nutrients or water as well as
clay type soils
 They have weak structure or no structure between the particles
space, so it is low for carry nutrients.
 Poor water retention properties because have high permeability
and highly sensitivity to compaction with many adverse
consequences.
