I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of weathering and soil erosion shape
the Earth's surface and affect living things and the environment.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to participate in projects that reduce soil erosion in
the community.
C. Learning
Competencies/Objectiv Illustrate how certain factors affect the amount of soil carried away: a) slope

Unlocking of Difficulties
Take note of the following terminologies.
Weathering refers to the breaking down of rocks into smaller particles.
Soil erosion is the process of washing away or transporting weathered rocks.
Agents refer to the factors or reasons why soil erosion happened
Sediment is a solid material that is moved and deposited in a new location.
Sediment can consist of rocks and minerals, as well as the remains of plants
and animals.
B. ENGAGEMENT What is erosion?
Establishing a purpose What are the factors affecting soil erosion?

D. EXPLANATION How certain factors affect the amount of soil carried away
1. Discussing new
concepts & practicing 1. Slope of the Land
new skills #2
- Land with more steep slopes erodes more soil by water than the land with
slight slopes. The pull of gravity of water carries more soil from higher
places. Slope is an inclined surface of land.

2. Vegetation Cover or Presence of Land Crops

- All kinds of plants form the vegetation cover. The roots of the plants hold
the soil in place and they hold water. Leaves of the plants serve as protection
of soil from being exposed directly to wind and rainfall. The absence of plants
due to poor farm practices can lead to fast rate of erosion in a certain place.

3. Type of Soil

- Some types of soil erode easily than other types. Some soils are fine and
some are rough. Sand and silt erode easily than clay. Loam soil can hold
more water and reduce the flow of soil particles.

4. Climate

- There are places that have been receiving abundant rainfall while other

places do not. The soil is very dry and exposed in places that do not receive
rain. Erosion by wind is observed in that place. For those places with too
much rainfall, erosion by water is possible. The soil particles are carried away
by flood from one place to another.

3. Developing Mastery (Leads Read and analyze the following sentences.Write Fact if the sentence is correct
to Formative Assessment) and Bluff if not.
1.Slope is an inclined surface of land.

2. For those places with too much rainfall, erosion by wind is possible.

3. . Sand and silt erode easily than clay.

4. The absence of plants due to poor farm practices can lead

to slow rate of erosion in a certain place.

5. The roots of the plants hold the soil in place and they hold water.
