1. Daily Routine
(Greetings)

Good morning/Afternoon, Class Good morning/Afternoon, Ma’am

Class, please all stand we start our day with a Prayer

prayer.

You may now settle down, please arrange

your chairs and pick up pieces of paper.

None, Ma’am.
Kindly check the attendance for today. Who
is absent?

(Classroom Rules)
1.Listen carefully
2.Avoid Noisy
3. Raise your hand if you want to speak or
answer.
2. Review of the Previous Lesson

Last time we discussed about what? Anyone Student raising their hands
in the group?

Yes, are you raising your hand? Last time, we discussed about the
Destruction of Coastal Resources

Can you give me some example of Destructive fishing methods such as use of
Destruction of Coastal Resources? dynamite and small-meshed nets.

Overfishing and overexploitation, Marine

Some more? pollution, Coastal development,
Sedimentation and destructive fishing.

Very good class, however, destructive

fishing methods, such as the use of dynamite
and small-meshed nets, have destroyed
seagrass beds and coral reefs. These practices
still continue in many places despite being
illegal in all countries.

3.Motivation

Before that let’s have a guessing game. I am

going to show you a jumbled letters to form Yes, ma’am
the correct words to describe the following
statement. Are you ready?

1. An agent of weathering that carries light

materials and soil particles by blowing
them and depositing them in other places.

Answer key:

2. It disperses soil particles that cause 1. WIND

topsoil loss, crop yields reductions, 2. WATER
infrastructure damage, weed dispersal, and 3. ANIMALS
dam silting. 4. HUMANS
5. SOIL EROSION

3. They damage the soil surface by eating

vegetation and digging into wet or
compacting dry soil with their hooves.

4. They damage the soil by doing activities

such as gardening, quarrying,
mining, deforestation, bad farming, and
kaingin.

5. It is the movement of rock fragments

and soil from one place to another.

Those words that you puzzled will be related

to our topic today.

4.Presentation of learning Objectives

B. During the Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
1. Activity

Before we go further, there are various agents

or factors affecting soil erosion those are
water, wind, animals, and human. Please,
read.

 Water Carries rock and soil particles from one

location to another as it flows.

 Wind When the wind blows, it carries light material

and soil particles with it, transporting and
depositing them somewhere else.

 Animals
Some rocks and soil particles stick to the
bodies of borrowing animals as they move
from one place to another, resulting in
sediment transport.
 Humans
Erosion is a natural occurrence. Humans play
a significant role in rate at which soil erosion
occur.

Let’s have a group activity. Please count Students agree

number one to four. Select a presenter and a
secretary in your group.
I am going to distribute activity sheets and
manila paper/pentel pen per group read the
instruction first. If you have any question just
raise your hand.

I am going to give each group 10 minutes to Students are attentively listening.

correctly?

I’m glad that you were able to identify the

causes and effects of soil erosion. If you have
no question let us proceed to our next activity.

Now, let’s talk about ways to control soil

erosion. Here are some methods for
preventing soil erosion:

May be used to slow down water and prevent

1.Building dikes of stones or logs water from flowing out.

Exactly, stones or logs serves as a method to

prevent soil erosion and manage water flow
by creating physical barriers

2.Contour plowing Is a farming technique where the soil is

plowed following the contour or shape of the
land.

Also, Contour plowing involves tilling and

planting crop, reducing the speed of water
runoff and minimizing soil erosion.

3.Crop rotation Is a method of planting a series of different

crops in the same area in sequential seasons.
Always remember class, Crop rotation helps
maintain soil fertility and prevent the buildup
of pests or diseases associated with
continuous cultivation of the same crop.

4.Deforestation
Plants and trees help in the control of soil
Yes, Deforestation often for agricultural erosion.
expansion or other purposes, leading to
habitat loss, carbon emissions, and
disruptions in local ecosystems

5.Rippraping
Is a building ripraps or chunks of stones or
rocks arranged on the edge of slope.
Also, planting trees and maintaining
vegetation cover is one of the most effective
ways to prevent soil erosion.

3.Abstraction

I have here a picture of Grand Canyon, class.

Did you know that the Grand Canyon was
originally a flat ground?

How do you think did Grand Canyon became

like this? The Grand Canyon's unique landscape was
shaped by the slow and steady processes of
erosion over millions of years.

Is it possible that water can move the land

away one-piece at a time? The water flow dissolved rocks, weakened
structures, caused cliff collapses, and carried
away rock and soil downstream.

What is soil erosion, and how does it impact

the Grand Canyon's landscape? This ongoing erosion has deepened and
widened the canyon, creating its iconic
structure.

What are some of the main factors that

contribute to soil erosion within the Grand
Canyon area? Those are water, wind, animals, and human,
ma’am.
Correct!
How about humans? How do human activities
both within and around the Grand Canyon To mitigate the impacts of human activities
impact soil erosion? on soil erosion in and around the Grand
Canyon, responsible land management
practices are crucial.

What are those practices?

These may include implementing erosion
control measures, limiting development in
sensitive areas, restoring native vegetation,
and promoting sustainable tourism and
recreation practices.
And by carefully considering the potential
impacts of human activities, it's possible to
preserve the natural beauty and ecological
integrity of this iconic landscape.

4.Application

Questions:

1. How does soil erosion cause flooding in the Soil erosion reduces the landscape's natural
community. ability to absorb and regulate water.

Exactly class, This leads to increased surface

runoff, sediment deposition in waterways, and
changes in drainage patterns, all of which
contribute to flooding in the community.

Any other idea?

Effective soil conservation practices, proper
land management, and maintaining natural
drainage systems are essential to mitigating
the impact of soil erosion on flooding.
You’ve got a point!

In my community, one prevalent approach is

2. What are the ways in controlling soil
the implementation of vegetative cover,
erosion applicable in your community?
where plants, grasses, and trees are
strategically planted on slopes and vulnerable
areas.
That was nice, idea!

Alright, its nice that you’ve learned a lot.

C. After the Lesson
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

1.Generalization

Since are heading to the conclusion of our

topic, let us summarize the important things
that we have learned in our discussion.

What are factors that affect soil erosion? Water is one of the primary agents of soil
erosion.

Correct! What else? Wind erosion occurs when strong winds blow
over unprotected soil surfaces.

How can we prevent soil erosion? Planting trees and maintaining vegetation
cover is one of the most effective ways to
prevent soil erosion.

Indeed! What is the importance of planting Trees act as natural windbreaks, slowing
more trees? down the speed of wind and reducing its
erosive power. When strong winds blow over
open areas, they can easily carry away loose
soil particles.
Excellent, class!
