for COPD patients

Medications
Tiotropium (Spiriva) Beclovent (Beclomethasone)
- Widens airways - Reduces swelling in airways
- Use everyday - Rinse mouth with water, gargle,
- Administer first and spit after using the drug

Exercise
- Continue to practice diaphragmatic breathing
- Start slow with 30mins a day, 4 days a week
- Recommended types of exercise:
> Walking
> Jogging
> Low-impact aerobics (swimming, stationary cycling)

Treatment
Incorporate medications into a daily routine.

Hygiene
Hand Hygiene
- Wash hands after using the restroom and before eating
Oral Hygiene
- Brush teeth after every meal
Eye Hygiene
- Wash eyes in the morning when washing the face
Head-to-toe Hygiene
- Regularly shower to remove dead skin, bacteria, and odor

Outpatient
Return to the out patient department after one month

Diet
High Calories
- Provides adequate source of energy
- Ex. Eggs, nuts, and seeds
High protein
- Strengthens respiratory muscles
- Ex. Fish, milk, and meat
Low Carbohydrates
- Limits CO2
- Ex. Fruits and vegtables

Spirituality and Sleep


- Pray for healing
- Sleep with two pillows to aid breathing
- Avoid napping during the day for longer than 20 mins
- Reduce electronics in the bedroom
- Establish a sleep routine
