1. Why is microbiology (the study of microorganisms) important in understanding all forms of life?
[Total: 1%]
Microbiology study and identify microorganisms exist in the environment, by studying the relationship
between microorganisms and other organisms, symbiosis could be studied, therefore know better of
the natural.

2. Would you expect to find Lokiarchaea at the top or bottom layer of the ocean? [Total: 1%]

3. Why could it be difficult for microbiologists to distinguish Lokiarchaea and Bacteria? (1%)
How can researchers distinguish Lokiarchaea from Bacteria in the laboratory? (1%)
[Total: 2%]
Lokiarchaea looks like bacteria but it has eukaryotic’s organelles and characterstics.

4. Would it be easy to cultivate Lokiarchaea in the laboratory? (1%) Justify your answer. (1%)
[Total: 2%]
No, as it lives under the deep sea mud originally which the pressure, environment and also temperature is
different form the land.

5. There are two models of Tree of Life - Two Domains vs Three Domains. Demonstrate the
evolutionary relationships among Bacteria, Plants, Animals, and Lokiarchaea by drawing a
corresponding Tree of Life for each model (both diagrams should be well-labeled). [Total: 4%]
