PRINCIPLES AND THEORIES OF LANGUAGE ACQUIS.& LRNG
11:00-12:00 /NOV.11 2019

What is Principles?
 A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system
of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.
 A moral rule or standard of good behavior or fair dealing.
 A basic truth that explains or controls how something happens or works.
 If you agree with or believe something in principle, you agree with
the idea in general, although you might not support it in reality or in
every situation
What is Theory?
 A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially
one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.
 A set of principles on which the practice of an activity is based
 A theory is a set of accepted beliefs or organized principles that explain and
guide analysis and one of the ways that theory is defined is that it is
different from practice, when certain principles are tested.

What is the differences between Theory and Principles?

 The main difference between Principle and Theory is that the Principle is a
rule that has to be followed or is an inevitable consequence of something,
such as the laws observed in nature and Theory is a contemplative and
rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such
thinking.
What is the importance of knowing the principles of language?
 Language is used to inform others, to ask them to do certain things and to
express feelings, moods, ideas, information, experiences
etc. Language undoubtedly has a very important social purpose because it is
mainly used for linguistic communication.
 It is obvious that languages play an important role in various aspects of our
daily lives. Their role is not only limited to communication, rather it extends
into the vast branches of knowledge and human sciences. Languages are
capable of developing human knowledge and extending it for the benefit of
human kind.
When can be theory be Formulated?
 A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the
natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed
through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not
"guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world. The theory of biological
evolution is more than "just a theory." It is as factual an explanation of the
universe as the atomic theory of matter or the germ theory of disease. Our
understanding of gravity is still a work in progress. But the phenomenon of
gravity, like evolution, is an accepted fact.
