We report daily on the HHS teletracking portal for both

Georgetown Memorial Hospital (42020) and Waccamaw
Community Hospital(42098) and our reporting of staffing
shortages is accurate each day.
Our staffing issues are nursing and we have between 50 and
60 contract nursing personnel and are receiving notices of
non-renewal because they are taking jobs elsewhere for
$150 - $200 per hour. We need at least 28 contract
personnel going forward given our projections of occupancy
and available staff. That number may continue to increase
depending on our recruiting and onboarding efforts and
success. We are paying our nurses premium pay (almost
double hourly rate) when they pick up a 4th shift; there is
overtime as well. For us, this has been and continues to be a
significant staffing concern. We continue to work with our
staff to ensure they are staying safe while not on the job so

Prisma Health continues to experience the reported staffing

shortages outlined in the HHS Template line items 23-25
overall. However, we have been able to adequately service
patients via Contract Labor, allowing more OT, shifting team
members across our portfolio of hospitals and increasing
PRN Pools. Interestingly, the Prisma Health COVID activity is
not significantly increasing like the remainder of the country
and that has also helped to ease major staffing concerns.
The truth is that Prisma Health had numerous clinical
vacancies prior to COVID. I am talking a closer look at all of
the campuses today to see if any can be changed to no

Even with calling in traveling/agency nurses to staff we are
often having to hold admissions in the ER until we have
inpatient discharges. We are unable to fill all of our
available beds due to lack of nurses to staff them all. We
strive for a nurse/patient ratio of 1 nurse to 6 patients
(though we occasionally have to go up to 7). Our census has
been higher than normal and our full time staff isn’t large

Clinical visits and staff education for quarantined areas are

on hold. We are using internal float pool staff, supplemental
agency staff, and overtime to meet critical staff shortages.
Bryan Psychiatric Hospital is also using internal staff such as
activity therapy and social work staff to assist in increasing
number of groups. DIS has increased our temporary hiring
rates to attract additional temporary staff to meet surge
needs. We have added additional contract staff including
international agencies to meet the demands. DIS has
temporarily closed 2 lodges for use as isolation Covid lodges.
We have reduced functional beds as well to meet staffing
standards deficits. DIS has collaborated with S.C. Dept. of
Health & Environmental Control and the South Carolina
Hospital Association to brainstorm on adding additional
staff. At this time facility is on quarantine and not accepting

We have closed entire units as well as beds on other units
due to staffing shortages related to nursing. We have moved
nurses from some of those closed units to other places to
help with staffing. We continue to have contract nurses in
place even with units and beds closed. At preened time we
have 39 contract nurses. We have many bed waits in the ED
due to staffing shortages on the medical units. We have also
had to transfer out critical care patients to other facilities
due to staffing. Additionally, we have a triage system in
place for exposed and sick employees to allow them to
return to work early in an effort to help with staffing
