Conclusion Questions
1. In plants, the process of forming new cells occurs most rapidly in special
growth regions called meristems. For example, the cells at the tip of an
onion root are rapidly dividing to extend the root tip deeper into the soil
during plant growth.
2. Interphase
3. Interphase- 20 hours (78%)
G1- 10 hours
S- 5-6 hours
S- 3-4 hours
Mitosis- 2 hours
Prophase- 14%
Metaphase- 4%
Anaphase- 0.8%
Telophase- 3%
Because it needs time to replicate and grow.

4. If the process of mitosis goes wrong, it usually happens in a middle phase

of mitosis called metaphase, in which the chromosomes move to the center
of the cell and align in an area called the metaphase plate. These mutations
can lead to harmful results such as cell death, organic disease or cancer.
5. Interphase/DNA Replication
6. Mitosis is a way of making more cells that are genetically the same as the
parent cell. It plays an important part in the development of embryos, and it
is important for the growth and development of our bodies as well. It takes
place in the meristems.
7. The nerve cells never divide or increase in number after you are born. If
they are damaged, then also they are not replaced.
8. Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the
potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Cancer is essentially
a disease of mitosis - the normal 'checkpoints' regulating mitosis are ignored
or overridden by the cancer cell.
9. Under a microscope, normal cells and cancer cells may look quite
different. In contrast to normal cells, cancer cells often exhibit much more
variability in cell size—some are larger than normal and some are smaller
than normal. In addition, cancer cells often have an abnormal shape, both of
the cell, and of the nucleus (the “brain” of the cell.) The nucleus appears
both larger and darker than normal cells.
10. Reproductive cells.
