EEXTENSION ACTIVITES

The PSG College of Arts and Science is a pioneer philanthropic educational

institution in Coimbatore. As a legendary approach, the college intends to develop the
Coimbatore rural areas considering it as its institutional social responsibility under UBA and
other Extension activities.
The adopted villages of the college are Kalangal of Sulur Tehsil and
Lakshminaichenpalayam, Thimanaickenpalayam, Sellakariaschal and Sithanaickenpalayam
of Sultanpet Block. As a participartory institute at the intial phase the team identified the key
persons in th locality like panchayath leader and local well-known personalities and had
discussion to know the feasibility of implementing further programmes in the village. To get
deeper idea about the village the community organizer conducted a mini study to know the
socio demographic profile of the village peopel which included random sample from the
village hamlets. Later, based on the mini study the participatroy rural appraisal tools like
social mapping, resource mapping, chappathi diagram and brain stroming sessions were conducted.
The rapport with the key persons made the PRA process easier. Through the PRA the areas of
operations were devised. The sequences of programmes were scheduled based on the key areas
of operation like health, nutrition, agriculture, skill development, education and good
governance. The strategic plan was devised to understand the threats and challenges. The
expertise advice was drawn from the department HOD’s and faculties. The College involved
all the students of the college in carrying out development activities in adopted villages.

The summary of the activities and areas of operation carried out by the college from the
academic year 2015 to 2020 respectively are as follows:-

Apart from the above programmes the college has spent Rs. 2 lakh for renovating
women’s toilet at Lakshminakenpalayam village. The extension committee members of the
college participate in Grama Sabha meeting of the adopted villages on regular bases to guide
them with necessary expertise and resources.

Since the college has shown considerable impact on the selected villages, the college
has received Rs.50,000 as Grant in Aid Unnat Bharath Abhiyan. Notably, the college is one
among the 78-participating institute of UBA has received perennial fund of Rs.1,75000 for
implementing the program in effective manner. The extension activities of the college
prosperous all the students, teachers and community people get benefitted and enlightened.
