Analytical Solution:

Cantilever Beam Deflection, v =

Where L=length, M= Bending Moment, E=200GPA, I= Moment of Inertia

= = = 0.0075 m

Bending stress, sb =

= = 60 MPa

Finite Element Method:

Software: ABAQUS

The given problem is modeled and solved with varying number of triangular elements. (say
10,20,40,400,320,288).

i. Geometry: all the dimensions are in mm. in the problem dimensions given in meters.
L=5m=5000mm & h=1000mm. Thickness is considered as 0.01m=10mm

ii. Boundary conditions and Loading: Node 1 is pinned and node 2 is roller support. Concentrated
Load is applied at node 3 and 4 along x direction with same magnitude and opposite direction
(F=100,000N).

iii. Analysis done using 2D plane stress element with solid, homogeneous material.
E=200 GPA =200000 MPA, ν=0.3
