Situation Analysis

Facing this pandemic, Education has changed dramatically from face to face into

online learning whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms.

Globally, over 1.2 billion children are out of the school and most are taking hard time

to have an internet access to participate in class especially those who live far from cell

towers in their city/municipality. Since online learning are used by the University of

Negros Occidental - Recoletos, the affordability of education is the most significant

challenge parents are facing right now. Lower-income family concerns about being

their children left-behind as 2,068 establishments has closed displacing 69,022

workers. According to Philippine Statistics Authority, 7.3 million lost their jobs while

321,000 overseas Filipino workers were affected. Moreover, 9.57 billion worth of

economic loss to the province of Negros Occidental affecting its citizens. Government

subsidies and scholarships offered by CHED are great help for deserving students to

pursue their education. The distinction of religions, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds

of students brought challenge to the University. Lastly, the increasing number of

technological jobs offer worldwide where in Information Technology opens the

gateway to adopt a much more technical environment.

Strength

Being known as the biggest campus with largest library in the province of

Negros Occidental, the University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos provides a library

and administrative services, products, and online resources for students’ accessibility.

The University is a Top Performing school in Medical Technology, Engineering, and

Criminology and is the center of excellence in Electrical Engineering and IT

Education. The University produces top-notchers in Law, Medical Technology,


Nursing, Criminology, and Accountancy. It is also granted Autonomous status by

Commission on Higher Education for five years while the College of Arts and

Sciences was granted level 3 Accreditation by the Philippine Accrediting Association

of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU). Molded with spiritual values

maintained relationship between teachers, faculties and students.

Weaknesses

Inadequate resources for facilities and equipment impacts the students behavior in

studying environment. The old buildings which is lack of improvisation distracts the

whole image of the University. The poorness of internet access provided by UNO-R

has been a great challenge as well as the rapid increase of tuition fees uninformed

might influence the students. The lack of full-time teachers in majoring subjects is a

lapse in terms of academic.

Customer Analysis

University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos target market are students from pre school

to post graduate and all their guardians or parents that has the privilege to let them enroll in

the University. The changing perspective of this generation is quite alarming when it

comes to deciding a course and school. Social media platforms and influencers have

louder voice in the university’s target market. The influence of school alumni brought

impact also the students’ decision. Students living outside Bacolod City are much

more interested to schools near bus terminals and markets for it is convenient to cater

their needs. The university offers services with competitive prices. Consequently, the

institution targets some of its high-quality service to quality driven, and higher income

customers most especially to the law and graduate school departments.. However, it is not

limited with that. In view of the fact that it also caters those who are with mid-range and
lower income customers by letting them avail scholarships offered until college degrees.

Competitive Advantage

The University of Negros Occidental Recoletos great competitor when it comes to


offering undergraduate to masters degree is the University of St . La Salle, one of the
most prestigious University sitting comfortably among the top 50 Universities of the
country. USLS has offer bachelor’s programs that cost 54000-80000/year. USLS is
considered to be a pricey option when it comes to obtaining a master’s degree of
120,000/year. The maximum students capacity of 15,000 with 499 academic
specialists. Colegio San Agustin - Bacolod also a catholic private University with a
tuition fee ranges 35,000-40,000. The Technological University of the Philippines -
Visayas who excells in Engineering courses might consider as competitor of UNO-R
along with Carlos Hilado Memorial State College included in free tuition law. In
terms of medical courses Riverside College is one pf great competitor considering that
almost all Med-Tech takers were board passers in UNO-R.
