Reggie Jackson: Extra
Bully 1: Matt York
Scene 1: Gus and Clark meet DONE (Should do last part w/ everyone at the field)
EJ is on his bike delivering mail while Justin is about to get ready for landscaping. EJ throws the
newspaper on 80-year-old Mrs. Donnelly’s house and Justin offers to get it with a ladder. EJ
tries to go on his way but then his chain breaks. He then asks Justin if he can fix it.
(Camera/setting changes) In the background, three young kids are playing baseball when a
team full of young bullies comes to kick the three of the field. The three kids want to stay and
practice with them or play off to the side, but they refuse. Justin asks EJ why he does not get a
car and EJ said his mom told him he should hold off to make sure his reflexes are fully
developed (EJ will do something with his arms). (Back to the field) The team of bully’s pins
down Nelson and Justin comes to the scene and tells the bullies to get off him. Justin asks if he
needs to call his parents, but Nelson runs away. Justin questions why kids must be so cruel.
(Slow motion of Justin stepping on the field/mound) Justin reminisces and talks about not
playing in 20 years and EJ talks about never stepping foot on a field because if he did the
neighborhood kids would spit loogies on his forehead. Justin tells EJ that he must try baseball
because it is the best and is Americas past time. Justin tells EJ to come back to the field at 4 and
EJ asks to bring James (Richie), they all plan to return at 4. (Can do a scene of when the three of
them go to the field for the first time)
The team of bullies shows up to the field when Justin, EJ, and James are playing, and Justin
confronts them about the incident earlier. The younger boys are relentless, and Justin says that
they will play for the field. EJ and James are talking back to the kids. The two teams play for the
field, and EJ and James are first timers, so it is a little tough for them. (The kids are chirping at EJ
and James), while Justin’s the experienced baseball player. (A scene of EJ and James struggling
hitting for the first time and a scene of Justin hitting/pitching in slow motion to add effects). EJ
is not interested in the game so he will be aimlessly running around the outfield, like he is
chasing something. The game ends and the three guys go back to Richie’s to have a drink (this is
where Howie is introduced). Justin mentions how a win must be celebrated by going to pizza
hut. Justin and James are at the salad bar and an attractive worker is there who James likes.
Justin turns James towards her and leaves, which leads to an awkward conversation between
Richie and the Pizza hut worker.
Justin asks Mel why we are not practicing on the field. Mel thinks we should have a more secret
practice and become more well-rounded as a team. He brings out his old friend, Reggie Jackson.
EJ and James are trying to guess who it is, saying it is Mr. T and Dr. Dre but Justin is all excited
that it is Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson. Reggie Jackson will run us through some drills. One that
we will do is ding dong ditch (will use the res halls for this) which will teach us speed. (Use slow
motion of us running to show effect). The next drill we will do is “hot potato” to work on catch
and release/quick hands. (can film this anywhere with an oven) The three of us throw it around
and EJ catches it and holds onto it, later realizing that it is burning his hand and then throws it
across the room. Last drill works on hand-eye coordination. We will be in the bed of a truck
(hopefully) and will drive around with us in the bed, swinging at a cardboard box or something
similar. When James swings he will hit the box and will hold his hands in pain due to the shock,
when EJ swings he will swing and miss and will pretend to hit the car (play glass breaking sound)
Kids who never got the chance to play in front of people have the opportunity to. The new
benchwarmers act like they have never played baseball before. The other team is shocked that
the fans are cheering on the players that missed the play/made an error and they think its
awesome because their coach did not yell at them. James and EJ are the announcers for this
game (who get tired because its strike out after strike out). Jerry (the coach for the other team)
is mad that his pitcher is smiling. The pitcher and other teammates come together to make sure
the new benchwarmers get the opportunity they deserve. So they make errors in the field on
purpose to let them score. Everyone goes wild when they score their first run.
