Pretest Comp 4 (Research paper 1st Draft)

Having a car wash it might sound easy but in reality, when people do not have the real

knowledge or the right people giving orders, it might turn into a disaster. Since problems are

getting out of hand, I decided to take this exercise and implemented in my own company. That is

why I am choosing my business as an example on the things I could do to make it better and to

find out which things I am doing wrong. Realizing that I need more ideas on how to control

people and how to make them see that we all need to share the same vision to make the company

grow. As I was reading, “Leaders need to show, not just tell. If you want your employees to be

punctual, make sure you’re there on time -- or even early. If professionalism is a priority, make

sure you’re dressed for success, and treat everyone you interact with (both in-person and online)

with courtesy. Set the tone and your employees will follow it” (Okyle,2014). To improve my car

wash business I will discuss 4 functions of management, possible outcomes and negative

outcomes as well, also I am going to set goals that I want to reach in 3 years. I am hoping that

this essay helps my managers and my employees

For this exercise I would love to choose the 4 functions of management, because being

honest me as an owner I am not implementing a plan or a structure to reach the goal. Besides

that, I just put someone as a supervisor without knowing if he was the right person for the job. In

my point of view, the 4 functions of management will bring great changes in the company. I am

even 100% sure that it will improve the relationship between supervisors and employees and the

relationship between employees and customers, besides having an objective set and having a

vision, the productivity it might even changed to positive numbers.

For my regular employees, what I am looking for is that this idea changes their thinking,

and if they are sharing the company's vision, then that idea is going to be good for them. For my

managers it will also be a good idea because they will be able to interact more with the workers
and we will be able to create a better relationship since we will all be sharing the vision. Another

positive aspect of this Idea is that most of those employees helped me at night in the warehouse

that I have for my other business, having them learning that system that I want to implement,

will helped them to apply it with my other employees that I have in the warehouse.

Planning in an organizational setting will be the second topic that I would love to

implement in my organization. In this case I want to use the planning in an organization to

specifically find out which type of managers do I have, and which people can be managers in the

future of my company. By implementing this, what I am looking for is for the managers to make

the effort of improving the production, and improving the relationship between the employees.

Now that I have all the cons of implementing those topics, I understand that we all have

good things and bad things. I understand that not everyone is willing to change or to adapt to

something new. I understand that if I make changes in the company a few people are not going to

agree with me. That is why I am preparing myself for that and I want to start thinking about the

negative outcomes that this change might cause.

Starting with the area that my employees do not have a high level of education, and they

are used to the old system of doing what they wanted, in some of them it will lead to work stress

and they will feel less, they will feel that they are not good for the job and that the company is

putting a lot of pressure and that this job is not really worth it since they have always done what

they wanted. What I mean by that is that when someone is moved from his comfort zone, people

react different. A negative outcome coming from this idea is that because I want to start planning

and putting an objective so we can reach it in the future, will cause that some employees will

leave the company, the production is going to be less for a few months, and we are going to have
to spend a few weeks trying to get more employees and spending time training them to do the job

right.

Now it is time to talk about a negative outcome that my managers will have. For some

people is hard or they do not like to give orders because they want to be friends with everyone,

and now with the plan and structure that I want to implement in the company, that is going to

have to change. I will always been a person who does not care if people get mad at me, I like to

do thing a certain way and for most of the time that is the way we do it, unless I see a better way.

For them to give orders it might turned negative because some people are not going to be okay to

receive orders from a manager. I would try to find a way to avoid conflicts between my

employees and managers.

In general, to start I would like to star setting my objective for the organization which is it

increase our production at least double of what we are doing right now. Then I am going to set

our mission which is to have more quantity with the best quality. Then by organizing, I am going

to see the levels of decision making that we are going to take. Le just say that I am going to have

to fire people, or I am going to have to buy more expensive products. The most important thing

Is to set the right people in place so we can achieve our objectives.

The most important thing I believe is to get to the aspect of leading, by planning and

organizing we can get far enough to almost reach the goal, but if we do not have the right people

leading then the company is not going to grow. As the owner of the company and as a person

with good values and morals, I always thing that we need to treat our employees like family

because thanks to them and to their work me and my family have food on the table, it is the same

if we see it the other way, thanks to the work job I give them, they have food on the table. That is

way I think that by knowing how to lead them in the right way, our objectives are going to be
achieved because we need a good communication, team work and the right motivation for them.

At the end it will be great to control each situation that is missing, that is why we have to be open

for positive feedback and negative feedback.

Getting in more detail, what I am looking for is for my managers to get my vision and

mission and to focus on doing it. I would like to meet with them once a week to discuss how can

we be a better car wash. First of all see if they are ready to change their behavior into the one I

want to implement witch is following my plan. If they are willing to follow my vision great, if

not they can look for another job. Then in the meetings talk about the needs for the company just

like new equipment, how can the employees get better. Then do another meeting with my whole

staff and explain them who is in charge and that none is going better than anyone just that they

are going to have to obey the person in charge. Then we as a company need to plan how can we

bring more clients, how we can reach the goal of the company because if we want to double our

production we are going to have to invest in more employees and in more training so they can do

a great job. Also the most important thing is to motivate my employees. Washing cars is a tough

job and it can be stressful sometimes, that is why I am planning on giving them 2 days off out of

the week and to give them monetary bonuses a few times per year.

In three years, I am looking forward to have the same employees and to have had

achieved my goal of doubling my production 2 times each year. As I was reading in the internet,

“Commit to several small goals per week for generating new leads. Pick a realistic number of

leads that doesn't challenge you too much, but still represents a significant increase in your

current lead generation. Focus on reaching those attainable numbers week after week, and your

sales pipeline will fill up--fast”(Wayshak,2017). That mead me realize that because it is a car

wash sometimes is better to set small goals per week just like putting a goal of how many cars
we want per week. That will be a good strategic to accomplish and I belie that that is going to

help me grow my business.


I also believe that motivating employees it is important, I consider myself a leader

because I always offer my friendship to my employees, I like for them tp be happy were they are

working and to be honest I care more for them that I do for the production, and I believe that

being a leader is more important than being a manager. Being a manager, it is just a title that you

can get and at the end your employees are not going to be happy in the company because they do

not see that a manager cares for them, not the same as being a leader. According to the

vocabulary: “Traditionally a manager is seeing as a practical problem solver who is concerned

with getting things done and doing things the right way. Managers try to stay impersonal and

unemotional in their dealings within an organization. Leaders, on the other hand, are traditionally

seeing as strategic visionaries who try to see the “big picture” and are concerned with doing the

“the right thing.” Leaders have a highly personal and emotional relationship with the

organization and its people. They are personally invested in its success.” as I was reading on the

internet, “Be a leader worth following as a leader, employees are going to look to you to set an

example for the rest of the group. Leaders tend to be setting a tone and values for the company.

By doing so, it could have a meaningful effect on the mentality of the employees. If leaders set

an example of positive thinking, employees will follow and the entire work culture will become

more motivating”(R,H,R,H,H,2018). That is why I strongly believe that by building a strong

relationship between managers and employees things are going to get better. To be honest I thing
that by creating this plan I am going to increased my sales in 3 years and I am going to expand.

Here you can see the worst 2 selling products that we had hast year, what I am planning

for my organization to do is to send my sells team to go to conferences and training of how to

become a better sells person, also if the possibility of working strategically on those two

packages by lowering the price at least five dollars and to include another benefit I am willing to

do it. The thing is that I want my staff to bring ideas and to feel good even if the idea is wrong.

Although by the next 3 years I want to increased those numbers at least six times higher. As you

can see in the graph from $1,524 and $24,00 in three years I want to be in $9,144 and $144,000.

Another thing that we need to set as a goal is to improve the quantity of cars that we wash

per year. Last year my numbers were 455 cars per week, which is a total of 1,820 cars monthly in

total 21,840 cars per year. In the graph above I am going to show how I want my numbers to

look in three years. In the graph above I explained the amount I am looking forward to reach
each year in total between my 2 locations. I plan to do tv commercials, and even include

discounts on every purchase. Also I am planning on doing researches on how can we improve

and listen to all the clients ideas.
