Morris+Company

MODU is a modular system designed by Morris + Company.

Due to its design and flexibility, MODU allows the user to combine its modules, designing diverse real estate products such as shelters, houses and
buildings of 25m2 and over.

The blending of these different volumes creates unique spaces and their layout establishes an interconnecting interior/exterior dialogue, drawing in
natural light to the core of the design, ensuring that the house provides flexibility of use all through the day, the week or the seasons. The double-
height living areas receive indirect lighting from their glass ceilings above, while the spatial nature of the secluded area and the bedrooms on the
upper floors is defined by the diversity of ceilings in each module.
Furthermore, there are different external features, such as central courtyards and significant semi-covered galleries overlooking the garden.
MODU
Designed to embrace economy of space, the house uses height to create dynamic interior spaces. Identified by its steep pitched roof and glazed
lantern, natural light is drawn into double-height living areas. Windows and rooflights of varying proportions frame views to the sky and the sur-
rounding landscape, establishing a playful dialogue between the house and its unique setting.

SUBURBAN HOUSE
The suburban house comprises three distinct volumes, arranged to frame three key external features; off-street parking to the entrance, a central
walled courtyard, and a shaded gallery and outdoor dining area to the rear garden. As such, a dialogue is established between interior and exterior
as the two interweave, drawing natural light into the heart of the plan, and ensuring that the house allows for flexibility of use over the course of a
day; a week; and through the seasons. Double-height living areas are indirectly illuminated from above by glazed roof lanterns, while the spatial
character of private accommodation and bedrooms in the upper floors are informed by the distinctive roof form of each module.

BEACH HOUSE
The beach house takes the form of a 3-sided courtyard, with 3 connected buildings serving as a backdrop to a central private garden. An over- sail-
ing roof design creates a continuous covered veranda to the perimeter of the house, ensuring outdoor spaces benefit from shade throughout the
day. Orientated around this veranda, accommodation and living areas profit from views across the site and out to the landscape beyond, with ex-
panses of glazing providing bright ambient daylighting throughout.

MODU Stack House

The MODU Stack House. Comprising duplexes at ground and 3-bed apartments in its
upper floors. Deep-set open air covered gallery in the upper floors provide each apartment with an outdoor ‘room’, allowing for external dining or liv-
ing spaces while ensuring apartment interiors enjoy abundant ambient daylighting. Composed of battened screens of varying density, the façade al-
lows for modulation of privacy and shading, dependent on orientation and proximity to neighbouring houses;
a visual language that lends the buildings an impression of dense thickets or forests.
