Energy Security and Management of Bangladesh

(Petroleum Prospect)

Mirza Shahanaoaz Latif*

Department of Petroleum and Mineral resources Egineering, BUET, Dhaka ,Bangladesh.

ABSTRACT
Energy is the vital force the economic growth of any country. For Bangladesh, energy
security and management for next decade is the main issue to discuss. To achieve the
expected socio-economic growth this nation needs a lot of energy resources. The
suprarenal development is directly depending on average power and energy consumption
of a nation. Geographically Bangladesh got lot of gratuities like natural gas, coal
resources. From the antediluvian era a huge sedimentation on Bengal basin occurs by
Ganga, Meghna, Jamuna (Brahmaputra) and so many river drifts. This petroliferous
sedimentation makes Bengal basin more attractive for petroleum exploration. In the near
past Bangladesh got offshore new boundary, the reign in onshore and offshore blocks
make future opportunity for exploration, which need proprium research and planning.
Although the energy demand is so high, still we are lack of information (seismic,2D,3D
surveys) and new exploration, which need to produce self-independent data processing
center, expertise, demand forecasting to secure the upcoming energy management. This
research paper revealed the prospect of future Bangladesh energy security and energy
management by accumulation of geographical data processing and decision making. Here
we also discuss about the policy and regulatory matters about petroleum geographical
survey and exploration. Else we parley about petroleum system of Bengal basin, seismic
survey of it, short-term planning (LNG import) and long-term planning.
