1. NLP presuppositions. Tasks [Dobzhanska-Night N.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Basics in Simple English, p. 15, 19].
Presuppositions are basic beliefs in NLP. This means, if you want to study NLP, you must start from these
general statements which express the main attitudinal beliefs NLP is based on.

1) THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY

A map is an idea of something, a picture of something that we have in our mind. This picture was formed based on
our prior experience in life, on our beliefs, conclusions from our past, and also on what we heard from our parents,
friends, teachers, neighbors and other people. So, the map is not the territory. This is one of the main
presuppositions of NLP.

2) RESPECT THE OTHER PERSON’S MAP OF THE WORLD

We cannot decide for other people. We should respect other people’s views, beliefs and interests.

3) IT’S IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO COMMUNICATE ANYTHING

You always communicate certain information, even if you are not saying anything. If your mouth is silent, your body
speaks. Your eyes speak. If you act, you communicate. But even if you don’t act, that also means something. NLP
practitioners, by showing their sensory acuity, learn from all possible signals – both lingual and non lingual. Even the
way you breathe can tell them something about you!

4) FAILURE DOES NOT EXIST. THERE IS ONLY FEEDBACK.

The idea is, even if we fail to succeed, our failure should not be described as failure. Our conclusion should be that
now we have some information that we can learn from, and try again.

5) WE HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES WE NEED

NLP believes that we do have all the resources we need. First of all, we have the internal resources. We have skills.
We have brains! And the other things will come, even if we haven’t discovered them so far.

6) THE RESPONSE YOU GET SHOWS THE MEANING OF THE COMMUNICATION

It may happen that you will fail trying to communicate something to somebody, you may have the very best
intentions, but your effort may never be appreciated by someone. So, it is your feedback. It is your result. What
should you do then? You should draw your conclusions for the future.

7) EVERY BEHAVIOUR HAS A POSITIVE INTENTION.

there is at least a grain of positive intention in every behaviour. Every behaviour can be reframed and used in a
positive context. When we understand this, it’s easier for us not to get stuck in the old pain, feeling insulted, feeling
angry, and to move on in life.

8) MIND AND BODY ARE LINKED

Your mind and your body are connected. What you think or what you feel is reflected in your bodily reactions, and
what you do or say affects the way you think or feel.

9) CHOICE IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN NO CHOICE.

Choices are possibilities. They present opportunities that we may use, or we may decide not to use. If we want to
achieve a certain result, it’s always good to have options to choose from.
10) PEOPLE MAKE THEIR BEST CHOICE.

The choice is shaped by their beliefs, their motives, their reasons, and their values. It is not our best choice. It is their
best choice. If we want to change their behaviour, they should see more options, and this is connected with having
more resources.

11) IF WHAT YOU ARE DOING DOESN’T WORK, DO SOMETHING ELSE.

Be flexible. Be open-minded. Do not be a stubborn person who is so confident that they never make mistakes. Those
who are flexible have more choices. The most successful people surround themselves with people who, they believe,
are wiser than themselves. They are ready to reconsider and change their strategies. They are ready to try again
somewhere else. They do not stop. Instead, they change. They are open to it. Be open to change! Those who are the
most flexible are the top people in their field.

12) PEOPLE WORK PERFECTLY.

People are not wrong or defective. They act according to their resources, choices and their vision of the world. Their
strategies may be wrong or not very effective. We should try to find ways to increase their choices and change their
strategies.

13) PEOPLE AND THEIR BEHAVIOUR ARE DIFFERENT THINGS.

We may not understand someone’s behaviour, but we should accept the person. We should always make a
distinction between these two things. People make their best choice and work perfectly, and their behavior can
change.

14) MODEL SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE

This will lead to your success, too. Imitate successful behaviour, do what those who succeeded in their field do.
Similar actions will lead to similar results.

15) ACT!

Go beyond theory. You will learn from your actions. You will achieve your results. You will have your feedback. And if
something doesn’t work, you will try doing something else.

Task:
1- If you only use the map it is difficult
2- Facebook is a social network. People communicate and find interesting information. I
asked my grandmother, she said she had heard such a word but did not know what it was.
And I asked my dad, he said it's a very interesting social network and he goes there every
day.
___________________________________________________________________________

1- PHILOSOPHY. study of the nature, origin, and limits of human knowledge.

These presuppositions express how to live
2-
3- I found these same presuppositions. But I liked it the most even if we fail to succeed, our
failure should not be described as failure. Our conclusion should be that now we have some
information that we can learn from, and try again.

4- I think the most important is 15. ACT!, 14. MODEL SUCCESSFUL

PERFORMANCE, and FAILURE DOES NOT EXIST. THERE IS ONLY
FEEDBACK because they are the most motivating
5- i think "IF WHAT YOU ARE DOING DOESN'T WORK, DO SOMETHING ELSE"
and "Act" you can make one group. Name “action in spite of everything”

6- RESPECT THE OTHER PERSON’S MAP OF THE WORLD(I can give such an
example. My grandmother lives far away from me and when I come she makes
me eat every 30 minutes) IT’S IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO COMMUNICATE
ANYTHING(for example, I miss one look from my mom I can to understand that I
did something wrong) (Another example that can be attributed to several
presuppositions when I was younger I wanted to learn to drive. but I could not go to driving
school yet, and it is impossible to learn to drive in the city. I asked my dad and we went to
the village where I studied. I did not succeed but I did not lose desire. And now I easily got a
driver's license.)

7- I think it’s about 7. EVERY BEHAVIOUR HAS A POSITIVE INTENTION, I think

the way we perceive the world and treat it is reflected as a mirror on us

8-

9- I rarely watch movies but one movie I mentioned. It’s “Doctor Sleep”. This
film is about people who can control other people with their voice, eyes and
gestures.
Another example is "Jumanji: A New Level" as the USUAL models of people who get into
the game trying to express themselves within a new context and a new role. How the usual
"I" climbs and does not allow the new "I" to be realized.

2. Right brain, left brain. Tasks [Dobzhanska-Night N. Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Basics in Simple English, p. 22].
Our brain has two main parts – the left and right hemispheres. And they are not identical. Each hemisphere is
responsible for certain types of processes.
The LEFT brain focuses on:

- verbal information (language and speech);

- logic and order/ pattern perception;
- analysis;
- facts;
- numbers/ mathematics;
- linear, detail-oriented thinking;
- sequential processing;
- critical thinking;
- emphasis on strategies.
The left brain is connected to the right part of the body.

The RIGHT brain is responsible for:

- visual images;
- recognizing faces;
- colors;
- art and coordination;
- reading and expressing feelings and emotions;
- music and rhythm;
- intuition, spatial/abstract perception;
- imagination and creativity;
- holistic thinking;
- random processing;
- emphasis on possibilities.
The right brain is connected to the left part of the body. So, if this part of the brain is damaged, the left part of the
body will be affected.
It is considered that one side is usually more active and better developed. Still, this can be changed as you develop
certain aspects of your personality. Actually, the preferences of each side of the brain are much more complex than
that.
Task:

1- I think I have both hemispheres of the brain work the same because the
functions of both are equally manifested

2- 29 ліва частина мозку

3- right, left, left, right

4- right

5- left

3. Conscious vs subconscious mind. Tasks [Dobzhanska-Night N. Neuro-Linguistic

Programming Basics in Simple English, p. 24].
Mind is considered to be the activity of the brain. We have our conscious mind, i.e., the activities and thoughts we
are aware of, and the subconscious brain, which is responsible for multiple processes we do not even realize. A
common belief that we can consciously remember 7 items at a time, but in fact it’s not more than 4! This is why our
conscious and subconscious mind is compared to an iceberg, our conscious mind being just the tip of this iceberg.

We can discuss some things with our conscious mind. And maybe, we’ll even manage to convince you of something.
By breaking your logic. Or by giving you consistent arguments and corroborative evidence that you won’t be able to
deny. And then you’ll give in, or surrender. But the trick is, our conscious mind is often way too stubborn.

So, NLP practitioners often resort to methods which appeal to our subconscious. They don’t hypnotize us. It’s not the
same. Read about hypnosis in some other book. But NLP uses some similar tricks, methods and patterns when we
speak to a person. This is one of the reasons why NLP is called very subtle. It requires subtlety.

Task:

1- I watched movies, ate, learned words, talked on social networks. I can't

remember anymore.

2- Subconscious processes: for example, reflexes when we deviate from the

snow.

3- One of the subtlest methods of NLP is something like hypnosis. Because NLP
practitioners work with our subconscious

4- Part of the brain—the amygdala—interprets change as a threat and releases

the hormones for fear, fight, or flight. Your body is actually protecting you
from change.

5- I think children are often manipulators when they want a toy or candy. I
think you need to know the methods of manipulation in order not to be
manipulated by another person.
