Warm-up and Objective Discussion


Warm-up Activity:
The teacher will ask students to name people or animals who you consider to be your friends.
Students will name types of people who are good friends and people who are bad friends. The
class will rank qualities in friends from good qualities to bad qualities on the board

Objective Discussion:
The teacher will read the “ANDROCLES” story to the students. Teacher will emphasize the
moral lesson of the story by giving them activities.

Instruct and Model  R  W  L  S


Instruct:
The teacher will instruct the students to listen actively and attentively on the story as they can
get a moral lesson.
Model:
The teacher will discuss multiple meanings of the word “friend”. Describing - a best friend
and an enemy. Students will name categories that best friends or enemies belong to, functions
of the words, and will compare the words to each other. The teacher will read the story
“Androcles” for the first time.
Guided Practice  R  W  L  S
 The teacher re-reads the story “Androcles”. This is a review of the story.
 As the teacher reads, he/she will display pictures on board that marks the actions,
events or key points in the story. The pictures are as follows:
 Sad Face
 Lion
 Paw
 Happy Face
 Two happy faces
 Jail cell/cage with the lion and man in it
 Empty cage
 After reading the story, ask them questions that are simple, provide options/answer
choices for responses.
 Ensure a low anxiety environment (do not force students to speak)
 Provide them with sentence stems for responses. (ex: Androcles wanted to escape
because….)

Independent Practice  R  W  L  S
The students will be given hand outs before reading the story

Assessment  R  W  L  S
The students will be given a story map hand-out activity.

Directions: Fill in the story map using the information of the story
