Narrative

(Afro-Asian Exhibit 2019)

Every year, Tayasan National Science High School (TNSHS), celebrates the AFRO-
ASIAN EXHIBIT which is hosted by the Grade 8 students, it is done in order to give pride to
the different cultures of different countries around the world, manifest the gods and goddesses of
the Greek Mythology, and lastly present the culture of the 21st Century. The Afro-Asian Exhibit
advocates equality and unity all over the world and it helps every learner to learn different ways
of life and love our own Filipino Culture as well. This year’s Afro-Asian Exhibit happened last
August 17, 2019 at the Mikaelas Place, Poblacion Tayasan, Negros Oriental.
The school-year before the Afro-Asian Exhibit 2019, Mrs. Norie Faburada, our
English teacher already gave the instructions to us, the upcoming grade 8 students, on how to
program works and how it should be done. We were all so exited since we are finally hosting a
program and we couldn’t wait for the next school-year to come which was S.Y. 2019-2020, by
then, we are already grade 8 students.
The next school-year comes and finally it is time for us to shine. It was a big program
since it is school-wide and the pressure is on us. By June, we started planning for the activity and
we already assigned each grade with their country, for Grade 7, it is the Philippines, for Grade 8,
Afro-Asian countries, for Grade 9, Anglo-American countries, for Grade 10, they were assigned
to exhibit the different Gods and Goddesses of the Greek Mythology, and for the Senior High
School Department, they were tasked to present the culture of the 21st Century. By July we
started printing and delivering the solicitation letters which really helped in making the program
a success. By the end of July, we started on making the different designs and we also started
practicing for our presentation and our dance. We also agreed to add an additional contest aside
from the booths and we made our decision to have a contest about who has the best costume.
One week before the program we started facing different problems, first of all we
failed to have the Municipal Trading Post as the venue of our activity since Tayasan Institute
booked first for their Intramurals. We also encountered financial problems but luckily it was
addressed directly due to the help of our supportive parents.
The week of the activity came and we were very nervous since we still don’t have a
venue for our program. But again it was addressed since Maam Norie said that we could use the
Mikaelas place as the venue and they already have available chairs to use, and after that, all was
well and we finished creating our decorations and started finalizing everything. The day before
the activity, we had a general rehearsal at the venue in order to keep it all in order and we started
on decorating and preparing the place.
The day of the activity finally comes and since it is a half-day activity, we still have
time to prepare for our booths and as well as the stage. The theme of the program was “Unity
Without Uniformity and Diversity Without Fragmentation: Key for a Better Society.”
The program started exactly started at 1:00 in the afternoon and it started with the
entrance of all the students wearing the attire of their assigned countries. After that was the
singing of the Philippine National Anthem which was led by Charmelle Marie G. Callao, our
class treasurer and it is followed by the Prayer, led by Kiesha May Callao, a grade 8 student.
Next is the Opening Remarks by Mykha Mitch Cruspero, also a Grade 8 student. After the
Opening remarks was the most awaited part of the activity, the presentations of each grade. It
started with the grade 7 and they showcased the different folk dances of the different regions
here in our country. After them was us, Grade 8 and we started it with an entrance and ended it
with a dance. For the Grade 9, they also started it with an entrance but in addition, they
introduced themselves, and then it also ended with a dance. For the Grade 10, it also started with
a dramatic entrance which really satisfies the magnificence of gods and goddesses of the Greek
mythology, it is also accompanied by the reading of the characteristics and personifications of
the god/goddess that they portray, and it was done by the hosts. The same as everyone, they also
ended it with a dance. The last to present were the Senior High Department, and they did it with
a fashion show presenting the 21st century in their black and red wardrobe. And again, they
ended it with a dance. Everyone really enjoyed that part of the program, especially the parents,
who were very proud of their children presenting in front.
Aside from the parents, Dr. Emelyn D. Bolongaita, the supervisor of Taysan I District,
also attended our program and after all the presentations, she gave an inspirational message to all
of us, and it really touched us in our hearts. After her message, she is then requested together
with our school principal, Mr. Warner A. Callao to come up stage for the awarding of the
academic achievers of the Senior High School for the first quarter. After the awarding, one of our
classmates, Decem-Zar Torres, presented an intermission number. Then one of the contests
followed, the search for the best in costume, in the said contest, each grade picked 5
representatives who they think has the most elegant costume that best represents their assigned
field. The representatives are then asked to have a runway walk at the center of the venue and on
to the stage, they were individually judged by the teachers, and after their fashion show, they
then take their exit. The teachers then agree on who is the right winner and it was announced, for
the girls the winner is Louise Joy Quillano, from grade 10, and for the boys, the winner is Heinz
Nimer, from the Senior High Department. After that the winner for the booth contest is
announced by Ma’am Norie, and the winner was Grade 9, with their Anglo-American themed
booth. And finally the last part of the program, the Unity dance it is where all students danced
together in unison representing unity.
In the end of the program, everyone was happy and especially us, the grade 8 students
since we are able to bring the activity into a success, and what was just a dream from the
beginning finally comes to a reality. But we could not have done it without the help of the people
around us and most of all to God, who gave us strength and made us strong for us to start the
program happily and ended it merrily. and also to our parents, who supported us all the way to
the end, and of course Ma’am Norie who never gave up on us and for always reminding us that
we can do it. And in the end “ALL WAS WELL”- Harry Potter.
