Unit I Sampling and research design : implication, steps, criteria for selecting
a sample procedure, types of samples, random and non-random sampling
samples, research designs: experimental and nonexperimental research
designs, between and within group design, longitudinal, cross sectional and
correlational research design, reliability and validity of research tools and
their related measures

Unit II Methods of data collection : collection of primary data, observation

method, interview method, collection of data through questionnaire,
schedules and other methods, collection of secondary data, selection of
appropriate method for data collection, case study method, guidelines for
developing questionnaire, successful interviewing, survey v/s experiment

Unit III Graphs and their presentation : diagrammatic and graphical

representation of data: bar diagram, pie-chart, line chart, histogram,
frequency polygon, curve and ogive curves, spread sheets
Unit IV Statistical tools : measure of central tendency, mean,
types of mean, median, mode and their applications, measures
of dispersion, quartiles, deciles and percentiles, variability,
range, mean deviation, coefficient of mean deviation,
standards deviation, variance and coefficient of variation

Unit V Testing of hypothesis : meaning, basic concepts, flow

diagram, power of a hypothesis test, important parametric
tests, types of hypothesis (null and alternate), limitations of
tests of hypothesis

Unit VI Statistical analysis : parametric tests, non-parametric

tests, students t-test, chi square test, analysis of variance
(ANOVA), correlation coefficient, correlation and regression
