The Future of Teaching and Learning with Technology

ABC Community School

How much worse is education planning to get? Hopefully we are all living under the same

century as there can be signs that those humans in charge of education seem to be living in past

decades. Currently, ABC Community School and all the schools under Clark County School

System are worry that technology will be cut off from the teaching curriculum. Those in charge

do not fully understand the consequence of teaching without technology. “Benefits [education]

include the enhanced diversity of provision and equity of access to higher education, alongside

the increased efficiency of delivery and personalization of learning processes” (Henderson,

Selwyn, & Aston, 2017). Enhanced diversity and increased efficiency are words that sound and

represent prosperity in education. Those are words with positive meaning in our educational

system. Students are progressing and moving forward with a new style to study with the help of

technology. Nowadays, technology need technology to complete homework, do in class

assignments, team and individual projects. All the activities from many classes are done with the

help of technology and as a result, we get great efficiency of information learned by the students.

Also, students are required to take from six to seven courses per school year and with the assist

from technology, students can complete all the assignments from their perspective classes. ABC

Community School and all the schools in the state need to be supportive to students and one way

to accomplish that is by having technology in schools. From a survey done to students in

Australia, it was found that “One of the most prominent learning-related practice was 'reviewing,

replaying and revising' digitally recorded learning materials – most notably the viewing and

listening of lecture recordings.” (Henderson, Selwyn, & Aston, 2017). One of the biggest

concerns for teachers is when students do not learn on the first time. If students did not learn the

material on the first time, they can review it themselves later with the assist of technology.

Therefore, I ask to not remove technology from any schools in the state of Nevada.

As we move on, the state and national standards for technology demonstrate the ability students

are required to have when they complete their education. For the next six standards, we will

contemplate the similarities and differences of Nevada’s and National technological standards.

First, we have the standards for creativity and innovation. The national values are for students to

apply existing knowledge, create new original work ideas and predict possibilities. Nevada see

students getting there with the assist of teachers and step by step. Once the students reach level

12, they will be able to achieve the national standards and even more. Then we have

communication, collaboration, research and information fluency. National standards want

students to communicate by making team assignments and ask question within the teams.

Students must interact, research, organize ideas, evaluate and of course expose the information.

Nevada’s values will be for students to communicate with images, sounds, findings and more.

Also, the state has required students to use keywords for research, use advance search, know the

difference between facts and opinions. Later there is the standard for critical thinking, problem

solving, and decision making. National values for students are identify, plan, collect solutions for

problems and Nevada has students solving authentic and complex problems with the help of

technology. One difference there is will be for 12th graders as they are challenged to solve

complex problems and that can create a type of compartmentalization for students to see life full

of problems. Lastly, a few national standards for digital citizenship and technology operations

and concepts are to use application properly to solve troubleshooting, understand technology,

and use technology properly and safe. Nevada standards are to explain the use of technology and

the risk of not using safe. Also, there is to give example of technology and develop strategies for

solving troubleshooting. For my next assignment, I will be implementing the standard: Creative

Communicator for my students.

• Name of Lesson: Allow Me to Introduce You…

• Grade Leve Appropriateness: 8-12

• Technology Content Standard Addressed: # 6C: Students communicate complex ideas

clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as

visualizations, models or simulations.

6A: Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired

objectives of their creation or communication.

• Other Content Standard Addressed: Social: Groundbreaking communication between

students and instructor for better understanding of assignments.

Math: Manipulate equations to isolate the answer.

• Objective: Students should be able to show how they operate expressions to solve and

obtain the answer.

Also, students must be able to communicate with its partner to create a friendly

environment in class.

Students should be able to feel attractive to the class as it is going to need more of them

to socialize than to operate equations.

• Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: A partner, paper, pencil, Microsoft PowerPoint,

Microsoft Word or Applications where you can write or present a slide show and Social

Networks.

• Suggested group size: Two to Three members (depending size of class).

• Procedures: What is the first thing we do when we start a new school year? That is right,

we introduce ourselves to our classmates and instructor. Well, today is you lucky day. In
5

this class, you are not going to introduce yourself. In this class, you are going to

introduce your partner and your partner will introduce you.

o 1st: The instructor will choose your partner. Since this is the first week of school,

all of you must feel a little bit shy to talk to someone new and ask them to be your

partner.

o 2nd: I will write your and your partner’s name in a list to know who is presenting

who.

o 3rd: It is a two-member team project, but if there are three kids left, them they will

present as a team of three.

o 4th: You and your partner will communicate and ask questions to each other to

start knowing what to say at the presentation.

o 5th: You and your partner will communicate in class, school and social networks.

▪ You and your partner CANNOT only communicate verbally.

▪ You and your partner will show the instructor a part of the conversations

there was between you two through a social media.

▪ You and your partner will communicate friendly and professionally.

▪ Snapchat, Facebook, email, letters, Instagram are some options.

▪ If there is any other social media available, feel free to use it and just the

instructor a part of that conversation.

▪ You can show me physically screenshots or photocopy of part of the

conversation or email them to me.

▪ It must be a respectful and friendly conversation.

6

o 6th: After enough conversation between you and your partner, you will introduce

your partner to the class on the assigned date by the instructor.

▪ Two weeks from now will be the presentation date.

o 7th: You will present your partner in one of the following ways.

▪ Slide show, poem, song, pictures, photos, etc.

▪ For example, you can do a slide show with Microsoft PowerPoint where

there are pictures or draws that can represent your partner and you will

talk to the class introducing your partner.

▪ You can write a poem and write it in Microsoft Word and read it in from

of the class.

▪ Be creative, funny, use your imagination

▪ The top where a few options, you can do something else.

▪ Be respectful.

o 8th: Your partner’s presentation must have his/her name, age, hobbies, something

interesting, and more.

o 9th: You will have from FIVE to SIX minutes to introduce your partner and vice

versa.

o 10th: Each team will receive an equation where the answer will represent the

position you and your partner present

▪ For example: If the answer to your team’s equation is one, then you will

be the first team to present and so on.

▪ It will be equations that will be cover as we progress these few days.

7

o 11th: Before you and your partner present, both of you must show me together the

presentation from each other and each other must approve the presentation from

your partner.

▪ For example, you and your partner can come to class and show me what

are you going to say about each other and each other must approve that the

information is correct and respected. Or email me the presentation and I

will forward it to your partner and ask for his/her approval.

▪ If your partner does not approve your presentation about him/her, you

cannot present until him/her approves it.

o 12th: Also, how you and your partner got the answer must be included in the

presentation and shown to the class, but not presented.

▪ I will check the answer separately.

o 13th: If you are writing a poem or song, it must be in an application where you can

open it in the class’ computer as it will be shown in the projector to the whole

class for them to follow.

o 14th: Time to socialize and start using that creativity of yours.

• Assessment:

Social Network Conversation: 5 points

Software or Verbal Style: 5 points

Approval of Partner’s Presentation: 10 points

Creativity: 20 points

Mathematical Solution: 10 points

Presentation: 50 points
