Basics of Filters

Filters
Role of Filters in the Industry

➢ To separate out the solid particles from the liquid mixture.

Other than above, filter also performs other vital role in Process
Industries

➢ Pharmaceutical plants

➢ AgroChemical Plants

➢ Speciality Chemical Plants

➢ Petrochemicals

➢ Refinery’s Upstream and downstream plant

Filters in Pumping System

Y Type Strainer

Bucket Strainer

Filter are the common and important part

of the piping system .
Inspite of having pressure drop across the
strainer it is must.
➢ Protect pump from the solid particles
and install at the suction pipe only.
➢ Without Strainer no centrifugal pump
will start otherwise threat to the pump /
Mechanical seal/ Gland packing.
Side Stream Filters

Now days Builders

Install these filter in
the Residential &
Commercial buildings
to reduce the raw
water TDS.

➢ These are filters connected in Series and sometimes in Parallel

combination.
➢ Install at Cooling tower & known as Side Stream filter to reduce the raw
water hardness
➢ Install at RO plant / DM plant / DI plant for reducing the water hardness.
These filters are having Activated Carbon and other resins / pebbles /
sand and depend on these resins activation and deactivation cycle
manholes were open to check their conditions / resin replacement
➢ Present in Chemical, Petro Chemical, Refinery, Fertilizer, Pharma,
FMCG Sugar, Pulp & Paper, Metal Industries etc.
Application in Process plants
Whenever the final product is in powder form &
input raw material is in semi liquid / liquid state,
then filtration and drying equipment is require.
