Science and technology work hand in hand to improve the quality of human life.

The
development of science produced countless discoveries and inventions which give us a big
impact in our everyday life. Indeed, change is constant though one may not be able to see the
change, one can look back and compare before and see the change. Hence, science and
technology have transformed with our culture. It opens the door and allows people to enter into
a new world which is fully developed and well civilized.
In today’s modern times, it is undebatable that science and technology has become vital
and have had a beneficial and profound effect in the world in a sense that works can be done
easier through high-technology machines and equipment resulting to the convenience of the
people and time. As for me, as a student, it is very helpful for me in day to day activities to use
technologies. Some of these are planning, socializing, communicating and banking that I now
tend to do through my gadgets particularly mobiles and computer. As we all know, computer is
the most useful and popular invention to use. Some may say that they can’t do anything without
computer. Some believe, it is a sort of enjoyment. Well, in fact, it is true because computer
makes life more enjoyable and through this, we may be able to discover and explore new
things. For me, using computer provides me a lot of things from my personal or recreational
activities, like listening to music and watching movies, to browsing all of the information that I
need to be able to finish my assignments as well as to solve mathematical calculations. Unlike
before, studying used to be a process of sitting in a library with as many books from the reading
list. Although, some students still prefer to do this, but now a simple search for my chosen study
topic on the internet can produce and provide access to huge numbers of resources. Truly,
computer finds me a sense of accomplishment when working with my computer or mobile.
Same as this instance, I am working and making on my assignments through computer and I
find these tasks appealing.
Furthermore, without Internet, of course, we may not be able to browse and search
through gadgets. The internet has given undreamed access to the students just like me. The
internet is a medium to connect with other people, sharing files and entertainment.
Consequently, the internet helps me in communicating with my family and friends back home. I
definitely miss home once in a while although I have settled in well, but sometimes I just want to
keep up with what’s going on at home. So, I get to Skype, Face Time, etc. In addition, internet
also helps me to exchange concepts and materials amid virtual tools for my research and
academic tools. Today, even in my school, we used internet and have moved to laptop and
projectors in the discussion to make the classroom more fun and engaging and even sometimes
teachers access for fresh information that can supplement our learning experience. We even
used social medias to disseminate news and announcements in schools. Well some of my
professors have made groups in social medias for sharing files and posting events and tasks.
We have a virtual learning website, where each course and module detail are available to us.
We have vending machines for the people inside the school premise. Lastly, we have security
machines, where every person who enters the school must be checked for safety reasons. All of
these technologies have greatly affect not just the students but the institution as well.
On the other hand, science and technology is not giving me only the positive side or the
advantages but rather it also gives me disadvantages that truly affect not just on students but on
human life as well. If I look around my surroundings or the people around me, I can say that
there are a lot of science and technology-based persons that are indolent because they are too
independent and don’t work anymore. Honestly speaking, I am too. I spend a lot of time on the
internet and sometimes I tend to forget the tasks that I’ll do. All of my time was spent on the
internet and I wasted it instead of studying. I even stay up late at night just poring over random
things on the internet and sometimes, when I wake up the next day, I have low energy and tend
to not pay attention in class. Also, sometimes I tend to believe on news that are fake and tend to
believe on things that is not legitimate. The quality of research and sources that I find are
sometimes not a top-notch. As a student, I am aware of these negative implications to my life
but whether I admit or not, I unconsciously got swallowed by the technology negatively thus
prolonging tasks and works in school. Likewise, I must know my priorities and manage my time
in school and other extra activities. Correspondingly, I must identify proper sources and
scrutinize it first before taking it into account as resources in making assignments and paper
works.
In conclusion, it’s clear for me that benefits outweigh the cons. But in my own
perspective, the key to technology in the classroom is always the teacher-student relationship,
because that’s where the education happens and technology can be highly effective tool to
enhance education. Technology is not meant to replace the teacher. Rather, the idea is to
create a flexible learning environment that breeds innovation. It shifts the classroom experience
from the ‘sage-on-a-stage’ approach to a more collaborative learning environment. The success
of such endeavors will ultimately depend upon how technology is applied to keep us students
engaged. It can be frustrating and time-consuming, but in the end, technology in education can
open doors to new experiences, new discoveries, and new ways of learning and collaborating.
