CASE STUDY OF
LAMAN DUTA
(COMMUNITY PARK DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION)
LAMAN DUTA, Canseri
Park, (Diplomatic Enclave),
Precint 15, Putrajaya.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS
1. Design of the open space structure and landform
2. Drainage system
3. Vehicle and pedestrian circulation
4. Universal design for people with disabilities
5. Lighting
Design of the Open Space, Structure and
Landform

• Design with multifunctionality and user friendly

• The balance of design/construction techniques that
signify sustainability
• The use of green technologies/materials/recycle
materials for landscape structures/design solutions.
Open Space

There is one open space.

It is flat and open to direct sunlight.
It designed for human activity and enjoyment.
Structure

Gazebo. Stairs. Water Features.

It used malay architecture. It used Melaka style stairs. Provide aesthetics features to the place.
It provides basic protection. Helps walking access between levels. Act as source of water for birds and
other animals
Normal design and could have Stairs design suitable for elderly usage
modern twist like solar systems and but not convenience for people with Users safety abit compromised which has no
etc disabileties. barriers
Structure

Playground.

Happy and striking in colour. Laman Duta Monument.

Provide playspace for children.
Created to commemorate the place.
Need barrier to have a more safer environment. Designed as artistics objects in some place

Lacks of information about the history and the place.

Landform

Landform is increasing step by step and flat in between.

The slope is not too high and safe for users.
Drainage System

• adopt a natural approach to managing stormwater

• application of sustainable drainage system (SuDS) principles
• compliance with urban stormwater management manual
(MSMA)
Drainage

Underground drainage.
Coverings for easy maintenance and safety.
Drainage with pebble stones coverings.
Direct water drainage prevents the area from flood
Pebble stones prevent visitors from stumbled.
Give an aesthetic looks and functional design.
SuDS principles

Sustainable drainage is a departure from the traditional approach to draining

sites. There are some key principles that influence the planning and design
process enabling SuDS to mimic natural drainage by:

• storing runoff and releasing it slowly (attenuation)

• harvesting and using the rain close to where it falls
• allowing water to soak into the ground (infiltration)
• Slowly transporting (conveying) water on the surface
• filtering out pollutants
• allowing sediments to settle out by controlling the flow of the water
Manual Saliran Mesra Alam (MSMA) or the Urban
Stormwater Management Manual,

To manage storm water instead of draining it away as fast as possible.

• Controlling the runoff.
• Two major parameters: quantity & quality of discharge
• Structural & hydraulic components designed & installed within site.
• Zero development impact.
• Problems will be handles more efficiently and effectively
Vehicle and Pedestrian Circulation

• Provide proper access to the park

• Integrated vehicle and pedestrian network
• Design that maximises safety and walkability
Vehicle Circulation Entrance to the Laman Duta

Can be accessed by transportation and pedestrians.

However, shared access can lead to accidents.

It needs a seperates access and barriers to isolate it.
Lack of signage and road signs.
Pedestrians Circulation

Pedetrians have signage to refer.

Walkway is a bit opened and this affect privacy.
Roadside has no fence and this put users in danger situation.
Need maintenance for broken roadside and walkway.
Universal Design for People With Disabilities.

• design accessible to people with

disabilities, children, elderly etc.
• apply the principles of universal
design
Universal Design for People With
Disabilities.

Walkway is not friendly users for

people with disabilities especially
for blind and person with
wheelchairs

Stairs is not users friendly for wheelchair

person and the area cannot be accessible
for person with disabilities

Playground only focusing on

children, elderly can be provide
with outdoor gym equipment
