Fin ish off, leavin g a tail to attach to the head – but we’re n ot don e
yet. I forgot to take pictures of this bit, so I’ll use the same on es I
used for S ylveon – I love how the differen t Eeveelution s share a lot
of the same characteristics. In S ylveon we picked up 7 stitches, but
for Vaporeon , we’ll on ly n eed 5 , so ign ore on e stitch on either side
in the photos.

In the top left picture we’re markin g the stitches we’re goin g to pick
up from – in this case, the stitches with the bobby pin s in it mark
the edge, we wan t to pick up the 5 stitches in the middle. The top
right picture shows row 1 4 below. The bottom left picture is the
fin ished trian gle (through to row 1 7 ), an d the bottom right is the
tails hidden an d the cap attached.

1 5 . dec, sc, dec (3 )
1 6 . dec3 * (1 )
1 7. ch to fin ish off (1 )

*a “ dec3 ″ is differen t to decrease 3 in a row – in a dec3 we wan t to

join three stitches, in stead of two stitches like we do with a n ormal
decrease. Take a look at this tutorial if you haven ’t don e this before

You can use the tail from the poin t to secure the trian gle, an d the
tail from the back of the cap to secure the cap to the head. It doesn ’t
n eed to go through every stitch. I usually secure it ever 6 th or 7th
stitch. Be careful n ot to pull too tightly, or the cap will have den ts.

later. I’ve PATTERNS
created a bit of a TUTORIALS FAQ of this
step by step photo CONTACT
process so the    
in struction s are a little clearer. Your fin ished product will probably
curve quite heavin g – min e did. This isn ’t a problem, sin ce we can
just stretch it out an d sew it in place on the body later.

This was a bit of an adven ture to come up with. Origin ally I tried
makin g the collar with felt, sin ce I didn ’t thin k I would be able to
create the shape that I wan ted through crochet. In the en d I couldn ’t
create the shape with felt! An d it didn ’t look as good. After tryin g a
couple of thin gs an d usin g some of the techn iques I discovered when
creatin g Jolteon ’s collar I came up with this solution .

There are some more detailed photos of the process below – the
pan els labelled with stitches show that stitch completed (I hope this
helps, an d isn ’t con fusin g haha).

After the collar is fin ished, it probably looks a bit small to fit aroun d
Vaporeon ’s n eck – luckily yarn is stretchy. I pull it over the body an d
then pin it down out of the way while I attach the head. At first I
thought I might have to sew the gap that skippin g a stitch leaves –

but on ce PATTERNS
it was TUTORIALS

the n eck those CONTACT
gaps disappeared. You    
can sew them closed if you wan t to, I just leave it.

An d ta-da! You have fin ished with all of the crochet pieces – n ow for
assembly. Vaporeon has so man y differen t parts it can look a bit
daun tin g. I usually separate them in to items bein g sewn on to the
body an d items bein g sewn on to the head. I stuff all of the pieces
that n eed stuffin g – head, body, legs, tail – an d then pin everythin g
in place to get an idea of position in g.

I fin d it easiest to attach the legs to the body first, then the arms to
the body. Then I attach the tail fin s to the tail.

Attach the tail to the body, an d then it’s time to attach the ridge. I
pin this on e in place as well, sin ce it keeps tryin g to curve away. It
goes from the back of the body to the tip of the tail. On ce that’s
don e, the collar goes aroun d the n eck, an d then I pin it out of the
way to make room for the head.

As for the head, I attach the cap first. Then I pin the fin s in place
an d attach them, tidyin g up the loose tails first (my method of
tidyin g tails is n ot particularly tidy – I haphazardly thread them
through the work an d then cut them as close as possible so they seem
in visible. On e day I might learn the correct way of doin g it, but this
works for n ow haha). If you really wan t to, you can iron or straighten
the fin s before attachin g them to help them stay straight (I put
bakin g paper between the iron an d the wool, sin ce the wool I use is
acrylic most of the time an d ten ds to melt). S ew the fin s on an d
you’re almost don e!

The last thin g left to do is attach the head to the body. There should
have been 1 8 stitches in both the last roun d of the head an d the last
roun d of the body. S imply lin e them up, an d whipstitch closed!
