Section A:

The standard I am focusing on is Observe and Learn to Comprehend: “The visual arts are
a means for expression, communication and meaning making.”

The learning target is “I can: identify key components of Mexican Muralist Art and self-
portraits by Frida Kahlo and use this knowledge to create my own Mini Mural!”

The Success Criteria is: Students will be able to identify Mexican Mural Art, Diego Rivera,
and Frida Kahlo’s work, and describe the current importance and historical significance of
murals.

For assessments I have an Exit Ticket as well as the project itself counts as an assessment. I
gave pretty clear guidelines: Choose 1 Social Justice topic of your choice to focus on
Choose at least one element of SYMBOLISM Choose at least one element of
SURREALISM You may use any 2D medium of your choice (graphite, paint, sidewalk
chalk, etc) May include text, self-portrait, etc, but not required! There’s no size
requirement, it can be as small as a postcard, or as large as your driveway!”

For the exit ticket I had the questions: “I used to think about Mexican Murals and Latin
American Art:”, “Now I think” “Feedback for Ms. Amber: What did you like and not like
about her teaching and WHY”, and Bonus Question: Do you know anyone with a crazy
cool love story??”
The responses I would be looking for would be for the first question would be anything that
is honest. For the second, it would be hopefully something related to the learning target such
as, murals came out of the Mexican revolution, murals tell a story for people who can’t read,
murals are for the everyday people, etc. For the project, as long
