Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the application of quantitative methodologies to address the

research questions and steps that utilizes by the researchers to be able the readers and other

researchers to find out how the study was conducted and how the conclusion were drawn. It

includes the following: introductory paragraph, research design, research locale, variables and

measurements, sources of data, and data processing procedures.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study employed quantitative methodology and as an application, the researchers

conducted their research using non-experimental research design. The researchers categorized

their research purpose as a survey that deals comparison of the two tracks which are the

Academic and TechVoc track success indicators in entrepreneurial ventures.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

The researchers chose Sta. Catalina Senior High School in Candelaria, Quezon, Grade 12

students as specific, because the researchers aim to know for what are the success indicators of

entrepreneurial ventures among Grade 12 young entrepreneurs of Sta. Catalina Senior High

students since they have the Entrepreneurship as an applied subject. The researchers divided the

respondents with regards to the tracks of the respondents for the purpose of comparative

research. This research will be a big help for the next G12 students to determine the factors

affecting their entrepreneurial ventures between the Academic and Technical Vocational track.
SOURCES OF DATA

The respondents

Using sampling probability, the researchers easily choose who are their

respondents and fish bowl as exactly to be fair in every researcher for them to get

respondents unbiased. The respondents have two categories: from Academic track and

from TechVoc track.

The researchers are able to choose their respondents from among three hundred

twelve (312) students enrolled in Grade 12. Thus the procedure identifies the specific

seventy-six (76) respondents using Slovin’s formula:

N
n1 =
1+ Ne2

312
n1 =
1+312(10 %)2

n1 =76

Getting the respondents from Academic Track:

T 107
n2 = x n1 n 2 = x 76
N 312

n2 =26

Getting the respondents from Technical Vocational Track

T 205
n3 = x N n3= x 76
N 312

n3 =50

Where N= is the population

e = margin of errors (the researchers use 10% or 0.1 as margin of errors)

n1 = summation of the respondents

n2 = respondents from Academic Track

n3 = respondents from Technical Vocational Track

T= Track

Thus, the process yields this result while a sampling probability through a fishbowl

technique is used to identify the specific respondents.

Research instrument

The researchers use and create questionnaires or survey forms to get the answer

respectively from their respondents. It will distribute to the chosen respondents of the

researchers in order to find out the result. These questionnaires contain question such as:

what are the factors that affect a certain entrepreneurial activity and the demographic

profile of the respondents like age, strand or track. The respondents are able to answer

the questionnaires using the scale with equivalent value.

DATA PROCESSING PROCEDURE

Classification and tabulation

Since this research is comparative, the results from each track will be computed

separately. The researchers used the Likert Scale in classifying range or categories to find out

the result of the Average Weighted Mean (AWM) in verbal interpretation. This will classify

according to the range equivalent of the results from their answers. The researchers will also

tabulate and present the respective frequency distribution, AWM, total average weighted mean

and Likert scale by using tables, figures for the analysis of data. This procedure will apply to

both Academic and TechVoc Track questionnaires respectively.

Statistical treatment

The researchers conducted the research through the data processing procedure that will

enable the researchers to come up with the results. First, the researchers created questionnaires

pertaining to the research study. Next, the researchers distributed the questionnaires or survey

form to the respondents through the fishbowl technique. After they get the answers from their

respondents, the researcher categorized and tallied the results. The researchers use the following

method of getting the results of the tallied results:

 Frequency

In order for the researchers to proceed to the result of demographic profile

such as the age, strand and/or track of the respondents, they used frequency from

tally sheet. After the tally, they will proceed on getting the percentage of each

answer.

 Average Weighted Mean

To get the average weighted mean, the researchers multiply the

frequency to the number of the respondent in every choice and divided by the

number of respondent
