Perhaps, what can be considered as the greatest influence of existentialism in the world of
education is the use of group dynamics as a method of teaching. Though such approach may be more
applicable to areas such as art and literature, group dynamics provide the students with the venue to
hone their critical thinking ability.

As for the role of the teacher, existentialism views the teacher as a mere consultant or a
facilitator of learning, a more modern and participative approach of classroom setting where there is
more freedom in the exchange of information. This departs from the more traditional approaches where
the teacher is the only source of information, the one who provides direct instructions to the students.

A key feature of existentialism, in my personal interpretation of the texts provided in the

reference book, is that it promotes a more individual centered approach to learning. Where students
and learners are empowered to create their own interpretations of their learning, based on their
experiences and personal circumstances. It also encourages the students to become more curious,
assertive, articulate, and socially aware.

As for the learner, existentialism promotes a higher level of responsibility by being allowed to
choose personal values, and being able to make personal choices.
