Form Fits Function

Different organisms have different capabilities that help them survive in their environment, it

may acquire different shape, size and structure to help it survive in the environment which is

known as form fits function. The phrase "form follows function" is derived from the famous

saying of skyscraper architect Louis Sullivan, whose exact words were "form ever follows

function. “This is a particularly useful idea for biologists, who can see that structure and function

go hand in hand, especially when it comes to cells, where the disruption of one aspect can lead to

failure in another’s or example The heart is a muscular pump, varying in the number of

chambers, functioning in the movement of blood or fluid through the body. It makes no

difference what organism it is in; the form of the organ will resemble the others with the same

basic function

All the living organism in this world have special abilities to perform different function based on

its design and structure. The certain parts of an organism that helps it make its life easier is called

a form fit function. For example, a fish can swim easily in water due to its presence of fin and its

body structure. Form fit function can include any of the function in the organism that is present

in the organism for its advantage. For example, bone structure of a cat and human hands are

same but the use of the limb is different in both the organism.

Form fit function can be of anything such as shape, color, size and so on.it is an concept

that an organism adopts to its environment to make its living easier for it to perform the task as

an owl can fly silently at night to hunt down the prey where as a penguin can use its wings to

swim in water. It determines what the organisms look like and what purpose it serves the

organism survive in the environment.

In this picture we can see that different types of fish have developed different types of shape, size

and body structure depending on where they live. Form fit function means the way the oraganism

use their body structre for them to get the best possible result from the environment. From fit

function is the different shape, size, structure and colour an organsim accomodates to best suite

the environment.
