Mercedes Mortimer

Patient Care Technician Hemodialysis

Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center

Mercedes Mortimer is many things. She’s fun, adventurous and hardworking. But most of all, she’s a
giver. With five years of experience as a hemodialysis technician at Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis
Center, Mortimer has been able to care for more than 100 patients suffering from severe kidney disease.
Each day she helps these patients get hooked up to machines that filter waste and water from their blood
and monitor them until their blood pressure and important minerals are balanced out.

Mortimer lives every day by following one simple rule. She says it’s “to live, to love and to have faith.”
Working at Fresenius, she’s able to contribute to the love that the company has for its communities.
Besides partnering with the National Kidney Foundation and participating in the NKF Kidney Walks,
which Mortimer is a part of every year, Fresenius has also launched their own foundation. In 2018,
Fresenius Medical Care Foundation was launched to raise awareness about kidney disease and the idea of
transplantation.

With the many hours that Mortimer spends helping people and supporting the community, it’s a surprise
that she has time to also live her life. Mortimer says that her favorite memories were of her Dialysis at Sea
days in 2017. She was able to live her dream of traveling the world while also doing her job in helping
dialysis patients on board cruise ships. During that time, she visited Bermuda, Jamaica, Haiti, Mexico, St.
Martin and St. Lucia. Now that Mortimer’s back, she’s still living her life. Yet, that hasn’t stunted her
advancements at Fresenius. Fresenius has earned exemplary reviews; approximately the majority of their
dialysis centers have earned a rating of at least three stars and above, as measured by the U.S
Government’s Five-Star Rating System.

Although Mortimer is certified as a patient care technician in hemodialysis from Atlantic Technical
Center, her goal is to be able to help more people. When she’s not working, she’s furthering her education
in the registered nurse associate degree program at the Emergency Education Institute. However, that’s
not all that she’s doing. In her spare time, Mortimer is working on creating her business to consumer
e-commerce store and dabbling in modeling. She’s a multi talented woman, and she credits it all to her
faith.
