Sweet Dreams Lighting Design

I am lighting this song as if it is a concert performance. The main artist is in the middle for the
full song and there are eight backup dancers. The dancers each get their own top light and
backlight. The lighting should feel ethereal and dreamlike especially during the “ooohs”. I want
the lighting to very much correlate with the beats of the song. So this is an informal notation of
the cues.

I got this far and then realized the seconds aren’t accurate enough. So essentially the next part is
on the counts of 8 of the song. But the lights will flash on in this pattern during the next 4 counts
of 8. The lights will each go off when the next one comes on spotlighting one dancer at a time
who is posing.

And yet again I am too specific, so this is where we go double time (the seconds are too slow for
this one) so on the beats the toplights on each dancer will flash on and off in this order
BG, CF, AE, DH, B, E, F, C, D, G, A, H
At 1.30 seconds: Areas ABCD flash white and stay on, the second beat Areas EFGH will flash
white.
Then we play the piano, there are 7 beats to hit here. So across the stage we go
AB (Pink), CD (Blue), EF (Green), GH (White), EF(Green), CD (Blue), AB (Pink) and they
flash on and off before the next Area comes on.

For my lighting instruments I used lighting instruments with Narrow frames for the toplights, I
didn’t want light to spill on the other dancers. And for the backlight I used a wide frame to make
more of a flood/wash over the dancers.

These are the colors that I intend to use, I wanted to embrace the neon and bright colors from the
80’s. These definitely say pop, and the unnatural lighting adds to the dreamlike ethereal state of
the performance.
Below are some inspiration photos for looks that are similar to what I’m trying to achieve
