Dj-Tony Kenyon 12 February at 06:27 Seriously.

WHAT THE FUCK!

I get a joke wage for a professional job; so does Luke and Ryan to put things in
it's value.
I had a few drinks and had refusal of service due to Grace harping on. Fair play
but seriously.... Are you for real?
£20 for a Friday night doing the shit I do and am able to do. To be honest I'm not
arsed about the money; I'm helping my so called best mate out. 5 bottles of pis
s poor alcopop shight and you're crying like a goat. I read your message to Luke
. I took the piss when?
I love you to bits you know this; but seriously tonight has been an utter pissfl
ap pisstake. If you wish me to work further more at the bar and are imposing thi
s stupid drink rule I want a decent wage; not a piss effort.
Also. Audiokast?
Let's face it you can't do what I can production wise and it's me basically goin
g to behind everything apart from sales and accounts.
If you wish me to continue with the project fair enough; it's your busness. Ther
efore I want a salery out of it from day one.
I'm fed up of being taken the piss out of.

Hi Tony,
It has always been 5 drinks for DJ's when they are working, 0 when they are not.
The only way it seems you got more was when you used both bars to get drinks. L
ooking through the book from January, you mostly have 5 drinks on the night.
About the bit were I said you took the piss and apologised to Grace - you got a
girl 2 Morgan spiced and cokes the other week, on top of the drinks you'd had. R
emember?
Now, put this into perspective - Thursdays I pick you up (as I do most days) and
bring you to the bar. You play to an empty bar for an hour or two (not your fau
lt) then an hour until jelly turns up. Fridays we get into the bar (normally) ar
ound 1.30, Luke tends to play til 2.30, and you do 3 hours til we close. Then yo
u would normally get a lift home. 5 to 6 hours DJ'ing?
You get £30 off Lee for Thursday (good money considering nobody is in) £20 for Frida
y + 10 drinks collectively over the two nights. So £50 cash and £30 worth of drinks
at an average £3 per drink.
Since the last week in January you have actually had:
22 bottles of Bud
19 bottles of VK
8 bottles of bulmers
14 bottles of smirnoff ice
2 cans of Redbull
3 vodka lemonades
2 sambucca shots
2 Morgan spiced and cokes
5 Double gin & tonics
Plus other drinks not recorded...
On top of that, over the last six months I have bought you:
3 pairs of pumps
2 pairs of jeans
3 t-shirts
2 polo shirts
2 belts
1 rucksack
1 pair of Gola trainers
1 £15 Haircut
3 jackets
2 hoody's
5 Breakfasts from Welly
Numerous things from Macdonalds
1 newsleacher subscription
You must appreciate (as Luke and Ryan do) that I can easily DJ myself on Thursda
y for 3 hours, and Friday night (which I did successfully for over 2 years). Luk
e and Ryan get paid £50 and 5 drinks to watch me DJ Saturdays, and jump on when i
need a piss. As a friend, i say I 'need' them in to give me a hand, and help the
m out with a bit of cash. They like the attention and the fact they are resident
s in a cool bar. I could save myself a lot of cash just doing everything alone,
but I like helping out my friends.
Now then, are you saying from now on then that we should return to me doing the
first part of Thursday and the latter part of Friday? I certainly have the abili
ty and the tunes. And I'd be £50 better off. Fine by me.
As for audiokast, I know how to cut copy and paste on Audition, fade, echo, add
silences, normalise etc... I have the killerhertz library of samples, and voice
over artists at the ready. I also feel I've got the ear for detail needed, as I
made most of the suggestions with production whilst you did the legwork on the m
achine. also i have OTS, a full library of music, and Rob said he can set up the
direct streams needed from the new office providing I've got ample bandwidth.
Now then, where were we? Oh yes, the drinks thing came to light as we were inves
tigating Adies disciplinary, so Doug has made sure the drinks rule is enforced.
So who ends up better off and who ends up worse off out of all this? Who is tryi
ng to help out a friend and get him back on his feet? Who has given who a busine
ss opportunity to sort his life out?
Have a think about what you wanna do and let me know.
Cheers

Dj-Tony Kenyon 12 February at 18:57 Drinks:
5 drinks for DJ's? I've never heard this before to be honest. I guess it's a rul
e you've had in place for a long time but you know this has been well broken
on many occasions; admittidly me included, however I wasn't aware this was in fo
rce.
Regarding the Morgan Spice drinks with Grace; once again I wasn't aware I was 't
aking the piss'. I applogised when she wasn't happy; obviously to save any
arguements.
Also I'm sure you've said in the past due to me pissing around all day with god
knows what for the bar/you to the bar staff just write down any drinks I
have. Aslong as I don't turn into Steven Hawking with intoxication everything is
sorted. So you've overruled the rule yourself at times. Once again, I'm
not complaining however it sends mixed messages.
The place has a long history of drinks going here there and everywhere, sometime
s logged; however usually not. I'm not saying it's right in any way shape or
form; just last night I was made to look a bit of a cunt. I don't get paid enoug
h from the bar to buy my own drinks.
Perspective:
Thursdays you pick me up; "!!!it's what friends do!!!". I'll make my own way in
from now on if it's too much hassle; furthermore I don't expect it. I
sometimes text you if it's pissing down with rain or whatever.
I play to an empty bar for a tad (it's not my fault I understand that; it's down
to promotion, or rather the lack of); for 2 hours or so, unpaid I might add.
The hour I play (2-3) or (maybe a tiny bit later if it's been busy at Revolution
and Jelly's getting his afro stroked by hot women before he turns up) I get pai
d for, fair one £30. However that's from Lee and £30 for an hour. Technically if I'm
covering him I only need to be there from 2...
Friday: It's generally me 2-5,6 depending on how busy we are. You kinda stand th
ere and give it "Tim Westwood" on the mic, which seriously; needs to stop,
it's not bloody wigan pier! "Are you ready for this one" - "No I'm not, sit down
and keep your brains warm x".
Luke plays like I do to an empty bar for a bit on Friday for the first bit, what
... 11-2? 3 hours same thing but dead (not his fault), however gets £30 for
that!
When Luke does the later part with me do you give him just £20? - I think not.
Once again, fair one you give me a lift home. Once again it's what mates do. I k
now it woudn't be a problem bumming a lift off one of the door lads or get
a piggy back off Aide. Christ if I got a real DJ wage maybe I could taxi it... T
here's a thought.
Payment/Drinks Pt2:
I get £30 off Lee for the hour or so I cover for him (obviously we'll not worry ab
out the 2 hours I do for nowt). Yeah sure it's good money considering
there's nobody in. Do the bar staff get told, hey look we're giving you X per ho
ur, that's good money considering there's nobody in! - Bollocks :)
£20 for the Friday. 10 drinks also in total.
Amazing.
I'm the lowest paid DJ there; even with the drinks.
Anybody can get a crate of Bud for example from Asda for £15. I'm sure it would be
a tad cheaper in Makro, that's about 60p a bottle! Which kinda is the
cost price for the rest of the bottles the bar sells at damn near it £3.50!
Regarding the stuff you've bought for me, I'm very greatful, although it could b
e deemed a tad weird and a little bit ginger beer but it's the way you are.
I've never asked for anything. It's like you're trying to justify a shit wage du
e to all the "favours" you've done for me.
You could indeed play Thursday on your own and also Friday; which I do appreciat
e. Luke and Ryan do alternate Saturdays and get £50 for practically nothing
apparently, which you've just stated. I do shit loads, I'm not talking about jus
t DJing either for the same wage! - Hardly fair if you put it into that
perspective is it!
I'm not saying we should revert back to you doing Fridays later on by yourself,
I'm just saying I think this wage should be sorted out! The Thursday is
Lee's set to be fair, so I don't understand how you'd be doing it. You have the
ability absolutely and the tunes, after sorting that drive out with Chris;
previously you've been on CD's with some of the worse music going (well RNB, whi
ch you know I hate so I guess that has an influence over my words here). I
supplied the music PC wise pretty much!
Lets face it, you'd not be £50 better off, you'd be £20 better off. Lee gets £30 from
the bar as you get paid from the bar also; and give me £20 out of
whatever you get for doing your Tim Westwood impression on Friday
Instead of you paying me out of your own pocket, can you sort something out with
Doug/Aide like Jelly/Lee/Whoever plays on Saturday get paid?
Audiokast:
Lets cut the bullshit, you'd struggle like fuck without me. I also if I was doin
g this as a business on my own, as I'm dog shit at sales/accounts etc, as
I'm a pure tech-head. You know alongside producing pretty much everything (not j
ust with audition, but ensuring compression is correct; even doing big stuff
in Reason/Ableton for big things), I'll be installing systems, ensuring if there
's a fault remote desktopping in, editing scripts, keeping streams
operational the list is pretty much endless. I'm not saying you are unable to le
arn or do this yourself but I and you both know how much you'd struggle.
Correct?
Not only would you be setting up a business but also learning some serious stuff
. My god you'd have no time left to cheat on Naomi!
Fine, with the drinks rule; I understand that now.
You say you're trying to help me out but seriously I'm helping you out a great d
eal also. It's give and take in many respects. You say you're giving me a
business opportunity, however the bottom line is I'd be working for you as head
of technical so to speak. No doubt totally unpaid until cash starts coming
in. However as I'm a very close friend you know I'd be more than happy to do thi
s, as it gets your/our business off the ground! - How many other people with
my skillset would be prepared to do this?
Conclusion:
End of the day I do a lot for you for little or nothing; because I do (in a non
shit-stabbing way) love you. I had to make that crystal clear as I know you
love to play pool in gay bars and mince around with Mickey in Shameless at puff
pool parties x.
I honestly think £20 for a Friday night and a few (5) drinks is a piss take. Let's
look at it in the correct light of performing not how many hours I do. I
normally do peak time on Fridays, which is normally very good and sometimes dece
ntly busy. Door money, Bar take this is what it boils down to.
How much are people paying in? - I'm not totally sure to be honest, I think it's
£6? - but I'll go with £3. Say we've got passing traffic of say 100
people?
That's roughly £300 just on the door entry. Turnover, what? - Around £2000-2500? - I
understand stock and barstaff, rent, lighting. So lets look at profit,
I'm going on a total guess of £1000?
SO we're talking maybe what £1300 profit, near as damn it?
When I'm playing.
£20 and 5 drinks.
You seriously think that's cool?
That shitty pub gave me at least £60 and a few pints friday and saturday (8-1; fai
r enough 5 hours). Sometimes it was more if we were busy. When empty it
was a pain, I've walked away with no less that £40 and a few beers. Top wack i've
came out with from there is £90! Still, nowhere near as busy as a shit
Friday at ours! (It's a back street pub, no entry fee, cheap enough beers)
Assembly I used to get £50 for Mondays with YBD. (2 hours, yes 2 hours; the night
was split between 2 of us, both on £50 each). Drinks were 75p, so I didn't
give two shits about paying!
When I did Friday/Saturday it was £150! Sure though it was 6 hours.
Wall Street next Saturday £120, It's 9-2 (I think) no later than 2 anyway. That's
4-5 hours!
Q-Bar Holland 300 for 3 hours!!! (300 Capacity venue, drinks prices around same a
s Loft).
They could pay this because it was 5 entry also. Plus we were packed!
Are we going to sort this out professionally or are we going to mince around lik
e queers on Canal Street?
Love you. x .

Like I said before, we have a budget for 3 nights at the bar, this budget remain
s the same regardless of door takings. The margins are nowhere near what you thi
nk, and the overheads are massive.
The reason I "dress" you is because you would be turned away from the bar if you
turned up looking like you used to - as you don't give a shit about your appear
ance. Comments made by people referring to you as the "homeless guy" who DJ's, p
issed me off, and I tried to do something about it. You represent loft when you
are in the bar, and a homeless guy is not how I want loft to be represented.
The bar staff get paid £6 an hour and work a dam site harder than you or I do, and
are allowed 1 alcoholic drink per shift, when the jobs done. So 5 hours = £30 and
1 drink.
You're job as a DJ is to provide music and create an atmosphere. Not drink as mu
ch as you can whilst doing it. I cannot justify more than 5 drinks for the DJ's.
And you spilt 2 drinks last night.
Think realistically about how much work other than DJing you've done over the la
st 6 months? Launched a website at my house, put windows onto my laptop. Made a
mix in September? What else?
Anyway, I created a role for you Friday without an additional budget, if your no
t happy just stick to doing your 1 hour for lee, 2-3 for £30 Thursdays, I'll get b
ack on top of Fridays with Luke. Easy enough. Just so you're aware it's 3 drinks
vouchers per DJ on Thursday, ask jelly.
Audiokast - I'm saving every penny to get into the office, once I'm in and set u
p, feel free to quote for production work and technical stuff.
Remember tho - this has all come from you wanting more alcohol than everyone els
e is entitled to. If you are irreplaceable as a Dj demands might be met but it's
just not the case. At least now you can concentrate on your day job, other DJin
g gigs and more time with your mrs I guess.
Dress as you want next time you come to the bar but be aware of our dress code a
nd entrance policy.
See you Thursday at 2am then.
I don't want to fall out with you but you have to respect the drink rule, it may
have slipped at times but that has almost cost adie his job, so it will be back
to how it should be. The money thing I can't afford to pay people more when I c
ould just do it myself, there's no point.

Dj-Tony Kenyon 12 February at 21:03 Are you seriously saying to me the DJ budge
t for Friday is £50?
£30 to Luke and £20 to me?
Bollocks.
I can't believe you've just compaired what a member of Bar Staff does to DJing.
I understand they do an amazing job, however as you know a DJ is an entertainer/
performer. Maybe yes, I admit a bar worker does work technically harder; however
I don't believe unlike djing there's a great deal of 'talent' and investment of
personal time lent towards opening a bottle and pressing a few buttons on a til
l.
Do you know what I mean?
Lee asked me to cover him on Thursdays. He's always done it and it was really ni
ce of him to ask me to cover with possibly the same wage he gets. Maybe he gets
a tad more but I'm happy with £30 :)
Not to mention me jumping on for nothing on Saturdays when he's on. To be honest
I don't mind doing this at all. He's done me a favour with giving me the cover
spot on Thursdays and I don't mind doing a bit for nothing on Saturday as more o
f thank you for the thought of me covering!
Also due to him offering me the Thursdays you dropped the £30 you gave me to £20!
Which lets face it, is cheeky as fuck.
The bar/you/whoever isn't paying out additional cash.
Audiokast (again): Why would I need to quote anything - I assume this "business
opertunity" would be saleried correct?
If you're talking about quoteing and invoicing then it's not so much a business
opertunity; but more of a couple of jobs I can quote/invoice for on various occa
sions should they so arrise.
Talking about cash, I need to pick up a few quid off Lee later. However I'm not
playing tonight, so with your new rules and regulations I can't get a beer. Sure
I can pay for one no doubt; however I still owe the missus £20 in rent!
As said, I had no clue about this bloody drink rule!
Everytime I've said something along the lines of the money's a bit shit on Frida
ys like, you come out with horrible negative comments like you just have, to put
me "in my place". It's a bit shit and that PUA crap is kicking in, no doubt. In
stead of being defensive you could of said, look I'll sort it out; I'll have a c
hat with Doug or whatever, after all the door take is good; the bar take is gett
ing better, but no you go on one like a fairy cup cake!
Right then, so no doubt you'll be going in shortly. You grabbing me on the way p
ast and we can have a sit down and drink about this stupidness; or you going to
act like a school girl with the smallest tits in the class? :)
See you shortly. x
