Manual Cleaning of Detectors

MANUAL CLEANING PROCEDURE – Photoelectric and Opto/Heat Detectors


Tools you will need:
• Small flat blade screwdriver
• Small soft-bristled artist's paint brush
• Denatured alcohol
• Clean dry compressed air

Note: Use only lint-free materials when cleaning the chambers of the photoelectric smoke detector. Use of fibrous material may result in false alarms.

Remove and Disassemble the Detector


Follow the instruction below to prepare the detector for cleaning:
1. Remove the detector from the BASE by rotating the CAP anti-clockwise
2. Disassemble the Chamber assembly from the CAP. Holding the CAP/Chamber assembly in one hand, placing a screwdriver under one snap
tab to release and repeat for all 4 tabs until the assembly is free from the CAP, as shown in diagram 1
3. Remove the Ring Seal from the Chamber Assembly
4. Disassemble Gauze Chamber (do not remove gauze) from the Chamber assembly. Place a screwdriver next to a Snap Tab and rotate anti-
clockwise as seen in diagram 2

Clean the detector


1. Lightly swab the Optical area as indicated in diagram 3 with denature alcohol and the small soft-bristled brush.
2. Use dry cleaned compressed air to dry the optical unit and remove any remaining particles
3. Clean the chamber cover and surrounding plastics in the same manner

Reassemble the detector


1. Locate the 2 DOT markings on both the Gauze chamber and its mating part and press the snap fixing home as seen in diagram 4
2. Ensure the Ring Seal is located correctly on the Chamber assembly and that the LED window is visible through the recess on the Seal
3. Locate the 2 ARROWS on both the Chamber Assembly and the CAP and press the snap fixings firmly home as seen in diagram 5 ensuring all
4 snap fixings are correctly seated.
4. Replace the Detector back onto the BASE. Rotate the Detector Clockwise until the clicks into position
