Reflection of instructional sequence

The purpose of the project that I created was to produce a set of

instructions for a recipe that is easy to follow. Good instructions provide

the audience with all the necessary information that they need to

complete a task, so I tried keeping this in mind when creating my own.

With my instructions, I wanted anyone reading them or watching the

video to be able to reproduce the same results without any confusion. I

think this piece achieves its purpose because I wrote the instructions

using plain style so that it would have clear wording and the information

would be presented in a manner that describes the steps thoroughly. I

also made the video with the intention of showing the entire process to

supply a frame of reference.

The audience is any individual who wants to learn how to make

Mexican rice. The video is the best choice of medium because having a

visual aid is helpful when making any type of food since you can

compare the appearance of your final product to what is presented in the

video or a picture. Watching a video also makes it easier to follow along

with each step as if you are being guided throughout the entire task. In

my video, I implemented different audio and transitional elements so

that the video is not only informative but also visually appealing to the

audience.

The research that I conducted shaped my decision about my

instructions and video because I learned how the way in which

something is being explained can be difficult to understand for someone

who does not have any prior knowledge on the subject. My primary

source was my mother because I was using the family recipe. Although I

had no trouble writing out the directions because I grew up watching my

mom making rice all the time, I knew that not everyone is skilled in

mixing in the right amounts or knowing how to properly season. This is

why I included small statements of reassurance in my video so that the

audience would be able to check that they are on the right path. My

secondary source was a similar recipe that I found on a website that is

dedicated to posting various food recipes, which allowed me to get an

idea of how recipes are presented. Any example of professional and

technical communication utilizes a specific genre that is consistent

throughout multiple platforms, so this helped to develop a template for

my instructions. I also watched several cooking videos that offered some

insight into the recording aspect of the project so that I knew what I

should incorporate into my video and also what I liked to see as a

viewer.

The three peer reviews influenced my project because it was an

opportunity to receive feedback from different perspectives, and they

pointed out some parts that did not make sense or that I could change to

improve on the delivery of the instructions. Everyone perceives

everything differently, so it is useful to see how my writing is being

interpreted and if my points are getting across correctly. I really enjoyed

doing this project and working in a group since our current conditions do

not allow for many means of interaction. I especially enjoyed making

the video because I do not have a lot of experience with editing or

compiling recordings together, so I am glad that I got to practice this for

any future projects.
