Reflection:

As I look back over my questions that I have created, I feel that I have successfully been
able to come up with appropriately constructed multiple choice and constructed response
questions. According to the text on page 368 in the section called “Multiple- Choice Items”, it
explains that multiple choice questions needs to be formed in the appropriate way so that anyone
taking the test is not able to just guess the answer, even people who has no read the text.
Furthermore, it says that answers should all be written in a similar way to not give away the
answer. I feel that I stayed consistent throughout my choices in my questions which would
require students to have actually read the text to earn a high score on this test. Also in “Multiple-
Choice Items” it says to have four to five possible answers which include the distractor answers.
I think that I was able to offer answers that could be possible and would make it difficult for a
student who has not read the text to just guess the answers. As for the constructed response
questions that I created, followed along the lines of what is talked about on page 370 of the text
book. Under the heading “Writing Constructed-Response Items” it talks about using fill in the
blank questions as one option for writing this type of question. Using this type of questioning
allows for the student to answer themselves, which can make the test more difficult for student,
because they have to supply their own answer. Using fill in the black format for the test
questions, “can reduce the element of test wiseness to near zero”(Fill-in-the-Blank Items) This
meaning that students are not going to have the advantage of using the format to help them get a
higher grade. This is going to be one way that my tests can foster learning, because students will
know that they need to study for the tests and actually learn the material rather than just
overview the material and make guesses. Offering different kinds of questions on a test will help
students be able to apply their knowledge not just pick an answer. This allows teachers to see
how the students are really doing and what they understand compared to what they are not. This
will allow the teacher to adjust their teaching as needed to benefit students and foster learning.
The teacher can then take their new data and make a plan to reteach the lesson or topic that
students seem to be lacking in which is discussed on page 353 in the textbook.
