Five-paragraph essays are incredibly useful in two situations — when writers are just starting out and when

a writing
assignment is timed.
Three basic parts: introduction, body, and conclusion.
Triple Venn Diagram are used to compare and contrast three things. This Venn Diagram with 3 circles helps students
identify shared features of three objects or ideas.
Where the circles overlap, students write shared characteristics (things that are the same). In the circles to the left,
right, and top, students will list features that are specific to each object (things that are different). Top of the circle you
wrote the classification of the information written on the circle.

KWL Chart Students activate their background knowledge or schema as they brainstorm what they know about a
topic under the “K” column. They then set a purpose for reading by noting what they want to know under
the “W” column. Finally, they record what they learned under the “L” column.

Three Paragraph Main Idea and Details Chart identify the main idea and supporting facts in three paragraphs.

Cause and Effect also called sequence of events diagrams, are a type of graphic organizer that describe how events
affect one another in a process. The student must be able to identify and analyze the cause(s) and the effect(s) of an
event or process.

Alphabet Organizer used to activate background knowledge. It is where you’ll write down words or
phrases associated with a particular topic.

Brainstorming Web helpful for keeping brainstormed ideas organized, and pre-planning a project or writing
assignment.
