PERSONALITY: VIEWED DIFFERENTLY

Introduction:
In the last semester of final year MBA at Andhra University, Pratyusha
choose Accounting and Finance as her specialization. For that she got teased by
her friends, the standard line was “Pratyusha you just don't strike me as an
accountant”, but she is different in her attitude from most of her peers. Based on
her attitude her mother stated that “she was having the metabolism of a humming
bird." and also her friends stereotyped her as being in a sales or personnel job
rather than sitting quietly in some isolated office preparing accounting reports.
After graduation, Pratyusha narrowed her choices in jobs. She accepted the
accounting position, excited about the opportunity to work in the hotel business.
This case study deals with how Pratyusha’s personality is viewed by others
based on her attitude and how she holds and carried over by her own view.

Problems:
 She frequently got teased by her friends about her choice of an Accounting
and Finance specialization.
 Based on her attitude her mother and friends stereotyped her as being in a
sales or personnel job rather than sitting quietly in some isolated office
preparing accounting reports.
 Even working as an accountant for six months, she can't ignore the contrast
comments given by her surroundings and thought she would be happier and
have better career opportunities if she was in marketing or human resources.

Solutions:
1. Do you think that the comments of Ms. Pratyusha holds good?

Pratyushas’ comments: “We should be adaptable to the needs of the

business and the opportunities available rather than having static personality
traits or aptitude. Gone are those days!”
Adaptive behavior refers to behavior that enables a person to get along in
their environment with greatest success and least conflict with others.
Here Pratyusha holds good comments and she is totally satisfied with the
work what she is doing now, she rather than having static personality traits or
aptitude, adapts to the needs of the business and opportunities available.
2. Do you think that Ms. Pratyusha would have done better had she been in
marketing or the human resource area?

In point of view, I don't think she would have done better by being in the
marketing or human resource area, May be it suits for her attitude and personality
from which her mother and friends stated. But on the other hand her area of
interests are in Accounting and Finance which clearly seen from her choice of
specialization in her study. She is happy and satisfied with her current job position,
yet by her comment she will master any job rather than wasting her time without
learning any.

Conclusion:
Thus the case study clearly shows based on attitude of Pratyusha her
personality is viewed differently by her mother and friends. But she is happy and
satisfied with her current job position, yet by her comment she will master any job
rather than wasting her time without learning any.
