Why do People Like Junk Food?

Do you ever crave junk food like the
salty Lays potato chips,sweet M&M’s or the
sweet Boba tea made in Taiwan. This article
is about why people like junk-food so much.
Research on Tween Tubin said “that
people like junk-food because of sugar, salt
and other stuff” is one of the reasons why
people like junk-food. It is also somewhat
cheap. For example ramen noodles are under
a 1$ and if you wanted to make yourself a
salad you would have to buy the ingredients.
Another reason why people like junk-food
so much is because of the packaging. For
example, my little cousin picked M&M’s
over potato chips because as she states “ the
packaging of the M&M’s was prettier than
the potato chips packaging”. These are some
of the reasons why people crave junk food.

Free Lunch?

During covid, we have experienced
some changes with the schools. For those
who are going, you have to wear masks
now, and the school that I'm at, lunch is free.
But at some other schools, you still need to
pay for lunch, and worse, the prices have

free around this time because families need
to use their money wisely during the covid
pandemic. Families need to stock up on food
so they don't have to make a lot of trips back
to the store. Also, money can carry a lot of
germs from passing person to person. You

whole thing going on right now. In addition
to the whole money thing, some families
can't really afford to buy food or send their
kids with lunch money so it is kinda hard
right now.

Why do Trees Need to Lose Their leaves?

Why trees lose their leaves may
seem weird from a human point of view, but
to trees it makes perfect sense. The pigment
in leaves absorbs light for the tree to make
food for itself but in the winter there's less
and less light for the tree's leaves and the
cold could freeze them so they lose their
leaves. If the tree had to keep its leaves all
winter it would have to continue to provide
food for them which would eventually kill
the tree because the tree would have to put
all its energy into providing for its leaves
that would be frozen from the cold. On the
other hand pine trees have evolved to have
needles which they can keep all winter. Pine
tree’s needles are covered in an insulating
layer of wax that keeps them from freezing.
Their needles also have compounds that act
like antifreeze that keep the tree from
freezing solid.

The Most Haunted Place in Michigan

Throughout centuries, scary stories
have been passed down from generation to
generation. Thrillist, which is an online
media website, posted their list of the most
haunted places in every state, and for
Michigan they picked South Manitou Island.
South Manitou Island is located 16
miles offshore from Michigan’s Leelanau
Peninsula. The island is home to 300-foot
sand dunes, deserted stretches of shoreline,
empty rustic campgrounds, and some very
interesting folklore. In the 1800s, the island
became a popular harbor for ships traversing
the newly built Erie Canal into the Great
Lakes, and on to Chicago.
One local legend tells about a ship
full of passengers stricken with cholera.
(Cholera is a bacterial disease causing
severe diarrhea and dehydration, usually
spread in water.) They stopped at South
Manitou, where the sailors buried the 20
victims in a mass grave, some of them still
alive at the time. Soon after they were
buried, that’s when the hauntings and
appearances of ghosts started to begin.
Off the coast of the island lies the
shipwreck of the SS Francisco Morazan,
where rumors say a young island boy died
after trying to explore it on his own. The
passage that the shipwreck took place at
crosses between mainland Michigan and the
islands. This passage is known as Manitou
Passage and is the deadliest section of Lake
Michigan. There have been over fifty known
shipwrecks along the shore of the island.
There are also two cemeteries on the island,
and an ancient cedar forest where voices are
said to be heard. If you ever get the chance
to visit South Manitou Island, don’t go out
for a walk alone in the dark.

Save The Polar Bears

The polar bears are endangered!
Polar bears love the icebergs so much it
becomes their home, they sleep on them and
when they wake up they hunt on them.
Pollution is part of the reason why we are
losing the icebergs. If we keep polluting the
ocean then the polar bears will disappear.
The population of polar bears are going
down faster and faster. Other than pollution
global warming is making the icebergs melt.
The arctic is very sensitive to the different
temperatures. In the past few decades not
many people have noticed that the arctic ice
is shrinking 9 percent per year. The sea level
rise is getting higher. When the arctic ice is
melting it makes the sea level rise. The
arctic is the number one cause of sea rise.

Popcorn Sales During the Pandemic

With the pandemic it has shut down
many movie theaters, sporting events, state
fairs and concerts. Which means many
people have not got their fix of popcorn. The
only way for people to get their craving
fixed is buying some microwave popcorn
from the nearest store. The farmers who
service movie theaters and other group
events are different, with different customer
bases and sales strategies. They do not have
machinery for microwave retail packaging.
They do not have contracts with major
grocery stores or brand names the general
public would recognize. "My grandpa
worked at a popcorn processing facility in
Chapman," says Andrea Plucker, director of
marketing for Preferred. "He said, 'Hey, this
is a higher value crop, let's give it a go.”
Americans eat 70 percent of their
popcorn at home and 30 percent at theaters
and other events, according to the Popcorn
Board. But Preferred Popcorn - owned by
five farm families who work with 100
growers across the Midwest - sells more
than half of its kernels to the big U.S. theater
chains in 50- and 100-pound bags.
Sometimes, sales are direct to theater chains,
but more frequently the deals are with the
distributors who also deliver Milk Duds,
Good & Plenty and soda to theaters every
couple of weeks (theaters do not have lots of
dry storage space)."We work with Preferred
to repack the giant bags into 28-ounce
household bags, branded with Preferred
Popcorn as a way to get recognized by

while some theaters are reopening, he

Plot Foiled

On October ninth it was discovered
that 7 men planned to kidnap Governor
Whitmer from her vacation home on
Mackinac Island, located at the junction of
Fort Hill and Huron roads.The men spied on
Whitmer home in August and September.
The future kidnappers looked under a
highway bridge for places to set off bombs
that would distract the authorities. They
experimented with homemade explosives.
The following men wanted to kidnap
Grerchen because of her “Uncontrolled
power”. Their names are Adam Fox, Kaleb
Franks,Brandon Casserta,Ty Garbin, Daniel
Harris and Barry Croft. Croft lives in
Delaware and the rest live in Michigan.
Through undercover agents, the FBI had
been monitoring the plot for several months.
The F.B.I were listening to secret
recordings. The men were planning to
kidnap Governor Whitmer and take her out
on a boat into Lake Michigan and eventually
kill her. Fortunately, the men were caught in
the act. They were part of an anti
government group.

The First Woman to Lead The U.S Army
Reserve

For 112 years the Army Reserve has
been led by men… until now. Jody Daniels is
changing history. People who join the Army
Reserve are trained the same as if they were
regular soldiers, and as soon as they are finished
they can return to their normal lives. They can
go to college, become a regular civilian,
maintain a family and pursue a career, but they
have monthly training until they are wanted for a
special mission. So if you’re on the army reserve
you are basically a part-time soldier. ​In the
history of America, the Army Reserve has
played a major role in World Wars I and II by
providing trained soldiers to lead the newer
soldiers. During the Cold War, the Army
Reserve was ready to go to war at any moment,
and during the Great Depression, the Army
Reserve helped to lead efforts that provided food
and jobs for tons of people. The Reserve helps in
lots of ways; natural disasters, biohazards,
homeland security and civil affairs.
Jody Daniels has served for 35 years and
has played many important roles in the Army
Reserve including, Chief of Staff for the U.S
Forces Command and the Assistant Deputy
Chief of G-2. G-2 is responsible for policy
formulating, planning, programming, budgeting,
management, staff supervision, evaluation and
oversight for intelligence activities for the
Department of the Army, according to the U.S
Army. And on July 28, 2020 Jody Daniels was
promoted to Chief of Army Reserve. She and
many other women are changing history one by
one. They’re taking over what was once a
male-dominated position of senior officers in the
military. Her and all of the others achievements
are making this very male-dominated country
into a male/female position to lead.

Hazel and Baxter

Two bison by the names of Hazel and
Baxter escaped their homes in Washington state
city. The Police department of Spokane
township received a call at 8:45 a.m. Thursday
evening in a “low-speed chase.” The curious
creatures were found wandering through
residential areas. This is the second time in three
months this has happened.
Witnesses captured photos and videos
while inside their homes. Hazel and Baxter
escaped in July as well this is when they
wandered 3 whole miles around neighbors yards
before being recaptured. “In the early morning
of July 29th, 2020 the two wandered away from
a ranch on the upper South Hill,” the Spokane
Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Hazel and Baxter are used to humans,
but bison are very large animals and should not
be approached or antagonized if they are, they
could do serious damage to not only property
but also people. Baxter weighs 1,700 pounds and
Hazel weighs 1,300 pounds. According to the
National Park Service bison are the largest land
dwelling animal in the U.S. and in the North
Western Hemisphere.
Bison are ginormous mammals. Bison
calves are anywhere from 30-70 pounds when
born! Bison may be heavy but they can run up to
35 miles per hour. They live up until 20 years
old, and like pigs do, bison wallow to get rid of
pesky flies and shed their winter coats. They
also don’t have great eyesight but they have a
great sense of smell and hearing to help them
out.

Why Do Ducks Quack?

We all have those random questions like
why is the sky blue? or why are visco girls
annoying? But the question everyone has is why
do ducks quack. I'm just joking, people don't
always wonder why ducks quack but that's what
we are talking about today.
Why do ducks quack?​ Ducks quack to
communicate with each other and give each
other important information. This is similar
to how a dog might bark to tell you that it’s
just seen a squirrel, or even to how we use
speech. That's what people think ducks only
quack for yes communication for ducks is
very important.
Ducks quack way more at night
because ​wild ducks are sometimes noisy at
night but quiet during the day. If they don't
feel secure they might be noisy at night, but
conversely it may be because they feel too
secure, and have lost that instinct to hide
their presence during resting hours
Female ducks quack for different
reasons, like when they lay eggs but why? A
female duck will make a quacking noise
just before she starts laying her eggs, which
scientists believe could be to tell other ducks
she has found a mate and is claiming that
spot for her nest. Mother ducks also use
quacks to “talk” to their ducklings, who will
come over to her once they hear the sound

Hurricane Damage 2020

So far, there have been a total of 26
tropical storms, 22 named hurricanes, 9
hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. The
amount of hurricanes this year is 58. The
amount caused scientists to have to start
using the greek names.
 One hurricane is hurricane Delta.
Hurricane Delta left 4 people dead and
knocked out power for 6,000 people. The 4
killed were an 86 year old man died during a
fire when he was fueling his generator. A 70
year old woman was killed in Iberia Parish
likely from a fire caused by a natural gas
leak following damage from the storm. On
Saturday a 19 year old from Illinois
drowned in rough water after being caught
in the current. A 49 year old drowned
because of the rip tide in Escambia County
approximately five miles east of Pensacola
Beach.
The worst storm this year is
Hurricane Laura killed 26 people. This
includes a 14 year old killed in Vernon
Parish when a tree fell on her family’s
house. 11 people were killed in Calcasieu
Parish including, a 59 year old who died
from a head injury during storm cleanup. A
70 year old man who was killed from carbon
monoxide from a generator.
Tropical storm Epsilon, the twenty
sixth named storm of this season, was
centered around 700 miles southeast of
Bermuda and strengthened into a hurricane
on Wednesday, October 21nd, 2020. This
storm was seen Monday, October 19 with
winds of about 40 miles per hour, but it
wasn’t moving so no coastal watches or
warnings have been issued yet. A
strengthening is expected to take place over
the next 3 days. On Wednesday, October,
21nd, Epsilon strengthened to a category 3
hurricane but early on Thursday, October
22nd, it was reported a category 1 hurricane.
Late Thursday the hurricane swerved after
an unexpected Northwest turn. It’s expected
to hit the East coast hard.
In Conclusion, The Atlantic
hurricane season in 2020 has been rough.
Making the deaths from this hurricane
season 151. A purple sky even occurred
after hurricane Delta.

On September 21, 2020, Microsoft
announced its plans to acquire Zenimax

Bodies on the titanic; debate

108 years after the Titanic sank we
are debating whether there will still be
bodies aboard the sunken ship. Some people
think this is ridiculous and that surely after
over 100 years fish would have eaten the
flesh and the bones would be swept away.
Some even claim it would be grave robbing
or a sign of disrespect. However the dive
team promised to shut their cameras off as
soon as a body was found, but in the areas
with little oxygen no fish could survive, and
in an area with no currents the bones could
be in the same place.
Even though there might be
promising evidence that there could be
bodies on the titanic, the U.S. government
pointed out a problem, they had made an
agreement that the titanic be treated as a
memorial site. This means they would not
be able to do anything to the bodies. This
debate is still in motion. While some people
are doubtful there will even be bodies there
others think it would be a great thing if there
were.

This house has gained the reputation of one
of the most haunted houses in all of the
states and country because of all the
sightings of ghosts in the area. No doubt the
entire area is haunted due to the many

In Mexico,Latin America, and Spain
“All souls’ day” which is november 2nd is a
three day celebration that starts in the
evening of October 31st. The Celebration is
to honor the dead who return to their earthly
homes on Halloween. Many families
construct their homes to honor the dead.
In England, on November 5th in the
evening fires are lit and fireworks are set
off. The english for the most part stopped
celebrating halloween as Martin Luther's
protestant Reformation began to spread​.
In Ireland, where Halloween originated,
Halloween is still celebrated as much as it is
in the United States. In rural areas, bonfires
are lit as they were in the days of the Celts.
All over the country kids dress up and spend
the evening trick or treating, although some
people attend parties with family and

helps determine how we handle stress, relate
to others, and make healthy choices. ‘It’ is
mental hea​l​th. Mental health is important at
every stage of life, from childhood and
adolescence through adulthood.
Mental health affects everyone.
Good or Bad. In fact, one in four people
experience some mental or neurological
disorder in some point of their life.
Currently there are
four-hundred-and-fifty-million people
diagnosed with some type of mental
disorder, and more who are yet to be
diagnosed.
 Mental health or psychiatric health
is the reason we handle stress the way we
do,commit or not commit to certain
relationships,relate to others and, so much
more. Along with mental health comes
mental illnesses or psychiatric disorders. A
psychiatric disorder is a pattern of
behavioral and mental actions that cause
distress regularly.
Trump is 74 years old, putting him at
a higher risk of serious complications from a
virus that has infected more than 7 million
people nationwide. Melania Trump is 50
years old, also putting her at a higher risk. I
really do hope they get better so that's pretty

On October second President Trump
said that he and the first lady had tested
positive for covid-19. By the afternoon the
White House said that Trump and the first
lady would be staying a few days in a
military hospital. (​Walter Reed National
Military Medical Center is in Maryland.)
Trump departed the ​White House by
helicopter late on October 2. The White
House said the visit was precautionary and
that he would work from the hospital's
presidential suite. which is equipped to
allow him to continue his official duties.
Trump has said that the coronavirus is not a
big threat for most of 2020. At 12:45am our
president tweeted “Tonight, @FLOTUS
and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will
begin our quarantine and recovery process
immediately.” In a video taped before
leaving for Walter Reed, Trump said, "I
think I'm doing very well, but we're going to
make sure that things work out." He did not
give up his power as president while at the
hospital.
