Design Project for Fences

Due: Wednesday November 30
Total Points: 100

Please choose one of the following Design Projects:

1. Set Design
For the play Fences prepare a colored rendering in perspective of the set or a CAD drawing or
build a 3-dimensional colored model to scale. (I do not want you to go outside of your house to
purchase any supplies for this project – use what you have at home please.)

or
2. Costume Design
For the play Fences prepare colored renderings of all 7 of the characters in the play or find
pictures for each character (cannot be from other productions of Fences). You can find
templates for costume design to use to draw the costumes. (I do not want you to go outside of
your house to purchase any supplies for this project – use what you have at home please.)

Presentation: On the due date you will present your designs to the class via Zoom by sharing
your screen.

3. Broadway Design –
Find a Broadway Show, explore the show, provide a synopsis, investigate the design (include
pics of Costumes and Set Design as well as process – how and why they made their design
choices – find videos or articles describing the design process), the price, place and link to get
tickets and provide a video we can watch as a class (a song or short excerpt). Your paper should
include why you chose this show and what you learned from the project.

Paper: In addition to the set rendering or model, and costume renderings and/or pictures or
Broadway Design Project you will also be responsible for a typed (1-2 page) written explanation
for both your design concept and how you made your design decisions. Be sure to include what
you learned from this project.
