Music Today

In the article “The Same Affected Adolescent Pain, Updated for Modern Times”, by

James Lauren Keilies, that appeared in “25 Songs The 25 Songs That Matter Now”, he discusses

how pop punk has influences today’s music. Pop punk was not loved during its time. It was very

aggressive, had outspoken lyrics and showed plenty of emotion. The singers expressed their

suffering.

The author relates pop punk to a “Lucid Dreams” by Juice WRLD, that even today pop

punk is incorporated for teenagers. This song related to heartbreak, had similar sounds and

intensity. Juice WRLD let all his emotions out on his music and many people related to it. Juice

WRLD would relate to other musicians that had similar pop punk characteristics. The author

describes how rap beats and the pop punk hooks form a perfect combination.

Other rappers such as Lil Peep and XXXtentacion provided the public with similar

expression as Juice WRLD. The current artist would incorporate situations the world is fighting

such as violence, mental health and masculinity. Just like in the past adults do not relate to the

music as much as adolescents.
