2 DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 Release Notes

Supported machine models and memory cards

Supported machine models and memory cards

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 supports the following machine models and memory
cards:

Supported machine models

DIGITIZER 10000 supports three sets of machine models:
! MemoryCraft 10001 and MemoryCraft 10000 V3.0 or higher
! MemoryCraft 10000 V2.21
! MemoryCraft 9500 and MemoryCraft 300E
Newer Janome machines can be connected directly to your PC via the Serial or
USB port and cable. See Connecting JANOME MemoryCraft to your PC below for
details.
MemoryCraft 10000 V2.2 or earlier firmware must be upgraded to Version 2.21.
Visit our website at [Link] to download the necessary upgrade.
The MemoryCraft 9500 and MemoryCraft 300E machines do not support direct
connection.

Supported memory cards

DIGITIZER 10000 supports both ATA PC cards and ScanCards. The ATA PC
card is a PCMCIA standard PC memory card that is used for storing designs in JEF
format to be read/written from/to the JANOME MemoryCraft machine. In the
USA and Japan this has been widely used as a replacement for floppy disks. Janome
is the first home sewing machine manufacturer to support universal PC memory
cards in preference to the machine-specific proprietary memory cards previously
used for home embroidery.
DIGITIZER 10000 also supports ScanCards. These cards store designs in stitch
data format. They are primarily used to transfer designs from computer to
older-style embroidery machines.

Installing DIGITIZER 10000

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 is packaged as a full installation CD as well as

self-extracting installation for Internet download and contains:
! All necessary software components to for a complete installation or to update

! All supported language Online Help files
! English-only Instruction Book.
Once installed, the Help About box will show the current version of the software
update.

Security device

Warning Professional Windows NT, 2000, or XP users — if you are operating

under one of these operating systems, you need to log on with Administrator level
rights in order to install the software. This does not apply to Windows 98/98SE or
Windows ME.

Online documentation
The electronic copies of the Instruction Book and Release Notes provided with
your DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 software all require Adobe Acrobat Reader for
online viewing and/or printing.

Note DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 does not install Acrobat Reader automatically.

Reading your online documentation

You can access your online documents from the main Help menu — if you have
installed them on the PC. If you have not installed them, you can still select them
from the DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 Installation CD-ROM.

To read the Online Instruction Book and Release Notes

1 Open DIGITIZER 10000, then select Help from the main menu bar.
2 Select the document you want from the dropdown list.

Note If the document does not open, you may need to install Adobe Acrobat
Reader.

Security device

DIGITIZER 10000 is controlled by a security device attached to the computer and

security access codes entered in the software. Each security device has a unique
serial number and identity code so your system can be uniquely recognized.

new USB Port old Parallel

Security codes

Warning If the security device is removed or loses connection while you are
working in DIGITIZER 10000, error messages will display. Cancel the messages,
then exit DIGITIZER 10000. You will lose any unsaved changes to your design.
Re-attach the security device to your computer, making sure that it is firmly
secured, then restart DIGITIZER 10000.

Removing previous versions of DIGITIZER 10000

Avoid removing DIGITIZER 10000 by choosing Programs > DIGITIZER
10000 > Uninstall from the Windows Start menu, or by using Add/Remove
Programs from the Windows Control Panel. Both of these methods will remove all
of the files known to DIGITIZER 10000.
Instead we recommend that you let the DIGITIZER 10000 installation procedure
uninstall the previous version as you update your software. This way, the
installation program will merge all of the user-defined settings with the new
settings.

Note If you have removed DIGITIZER 10000 using Programs > DIGITIZER
10000 > Uninstall or Add/Remove Programs, the uninstall process may leave
some files in the DIGITIZER 10000 folder. You need to manually delete the
DIGITIZER 10000 folder and its contents using Windows Explorer. If you do not
do this, and then install a new version of EasyDesign, the Security Device Not
Found dialog is shown and the new software will not work.

Security codes

DIGITIZER 10000 is controlled by a security device attached to the computer and

security access codes entered in the software. When you update your software from
DIGITIZER 2000, you need to enter two new security codes in order to use the
software. You can obtain these from your regional JANOME office who can send
them to you by fax or e-mail. You can enter codes in DIGITIZER 10000 manually,
or import them from a text file. When you open DIGITIZER 10000 after
upgrading you will be advised that the security codes have not been entered.

You can enter the new security codes directly or by importing the codes from
another file.

Ordering access codes

If you are using DIGITIZER 2000 and wish to update to DIGITIZER 10000, you
need to contact your regional JANOME office to obtain new access codes which
will activate the new features.

To order access codes

1 Contact your local JANOME dealer to purchase the update.

Changes and additions with D10K V2

Auto Appliqué improvement

When using Auto Appliqué, the machine now stops after stitching the tack-down
and before starting the cover stitch, allowing you to trim the appliqué in place.
Previously, the software assumed a pre-cut appliqué. However, there are limitations
with this feature in relation to existing sample designs using the old ‘Normal
Template’. See Known limitations with D10K V2 below for details.

New Underlay icon

Click Underlay (Edit toolbar) to apply automatic underlay to new or selected

objects.

The Underlay tool is a toggle that allows you to apply automatic underlay to new
or selected objects based on the settings in the Effects dialog.

New Display Hoop icon

Click Display Hoop (View toolbar) to hide or show the hoop.

EasyDesign now lets you toggle the hoop display on and off with the new Display
Hoop icon.

Alternatively, right-click a blank part of the design window. This brings up a popup
menu:

on/off

Alternatively, the Work Environment > Display tab, accessible via the Setup menu,
now includes a Display Hoop checkbox. This option also toggles hoop display on
and off.

Embroidery Design Services and are protected by copyright law.

Known limitations with D10K V2

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 includes the following known limitations.

Click-to-Design with Satin Lines option

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 Click-to-Design with Satin Lines option does not always
produce correct Satin Line outlines with some images. To apply Satin Line
manually to the generated object, you need to first ungroup the object.

Underlay with some Embroidery Gallery items

Once underlay is applied to some Embroidery Gallery items, you are unable to turn
underlay off using the Underlay icon. As a workaround, you need to open the
Object Details dialog, select an underlay, and then deselect the underlay checkbox
in order to remove the underlay.

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 Release Notes 13

Known limitations with D10K V2

Auto Appliqué limitation

When using Auto Appliqué, the machine now stops after stitching the tack-down
and before starting the cover stitch, allowing you to trim the appliqué in place.
However, there are limitations with this feature in relation to some of the existing
sample designs using the old ‘Normal Template’. If the existing JAN sample design
has already been opened and an appliqué object created, the software ignores the
additional Stop and Frame Out.

Workaround
For consistent results, use the new ‘Normal Template’. Simply open a new empty
design (File > New or select Free-Hand Digitize from the Getting Started dialog).
Then select Embroider y > Insert Design and open the sample design you want to
use. Now you can add a new appliqué.

Select Free-Hand
Digitize

Hints for advanced users

If you still would like to proceed with a JAN sample design that has already been
opened and an appliqué object created, you can insert a ‘stop’ in the appliqué by
taking advantage of the object properties of the appliqué embroidery file. Refer to
Lesson 102 - Inserting a Stop in Appliqué of the online Janome Software Lessons,
[Link]

Opening online documentation

Sometimes online documentation fails to open when selecting from the Help
menu. If this occurs, select Help > On-line Manual a second time.

Message confirming ATA card presence

When you select to send a design to the ATA card under Windows ME/98/98SE
with the Card Reader attached to the PC, a confirmation message appears. This
message does not appear under any other operating system. Simply click OK in the
message box and the designs will still be written to the card.

Slow Redraw on Windows XP

Unfortunately Slow Redraw does not always work correctly under Windows XP.
This is a limitation of the feature. If this problem occurs, try changing speeds and
clicking the Go button again.

Opening DXF and JPG files

DIGITIZER 10000 V2.0 can only handle DXF and JPG files of certain formats.
The software works best when opening DXF R11 files. Any other version of DXF
will give unpredictable results. The latest format JPG files (*.JP2) cannot be
opened. All others will open.
