General Information
The term WinALC means “Windows Automatischer Leit Computer” (Windows Automatic
Guiding Computer). The programme is determined to automatically output target values for
the lining, levelling and pendulum units and runs under the operating systems Windows
9X, Windows 2000.
The WinALC fulfils the following tasks:
1. in case track geometry is unknown:
- recording of the relative condition of the track geometry
- automatic compensation calculation and output of the required target values for the
- lining system
- levelling system
- output of the super-elevation target values
2. in case track geometry is known
- input of the nominal geometry data
- automatic calculation and output of the required target values for the:
- lining system
- levelling system
3. Laser measuring run (option when a laser is fitted):
- recording of the lifting and slewing values by laser measurement.
Drives
1. drive cover:
press and shift to open
2. CD Rom drive
3. 3.5“ floppy disk drive (1.44 MB).
4. USB connections
5. button to open the CD-Rom drive
to close it press at any other place
6. yellow indication during read and write access
7. floppy disk ejection button
8. green indication during read and write access
15 inch screen
1 screen cover
2 clamping lever
3 latching lever for
inclination adjustment
4 locking lever for inclination
adjustment

Users logged in with the user name ”user” can, among other things, not modify the
operating system or install additional programmes!
Important notes: in order to prevent possible damages to the drives (HDD, FDD,
CD-ROM) by unacceptable shocks, the computer must not be on during transit and
shunting runs, as well as during travels to and from the worksite.
The operating system is started up. The ALC programme is started automatically, the ALC
programme window appears on the screen.
(The start-up procedure takes about 90 seconds.)
Electrical Connections
Current Supply
External voltage supply via batteries (24 Volt) which are charged from the machine
system.
In case the operating voltage is too low (<21 Volt) an alarm signal will sound and the
"Power Alarm " indication will be lit.
At an operating voltage <18 Volt the monitor and afterwards also the computer will be
switched off automatically. The Power EXT and Power Alarm indications remain on
until the voltage drops below approximately 7 Volt.
Fuses
Welding Works
Before starting welding works on the machine plug off all computer connections. The
connection of the computer casing to earth also has to be disconnected. Defects
arising from any failure to observe these measures will not be covered by warranty.

Recovery CD
In the case software problems have occurred the initial condition of the hard disk – as
delivered – can be restored.
For this purpose a bootable CD with the name “RECOVERY“ has been delivered together
with the machine. After the recovery procedure the ALC parameters have to be updated.
This function should be used only if serious problems with the operating system have
occurred or the hard disk has been damaged.
All data and programmes stored on the hard disk after delivery of the machine will
be lost unless they have been stored separately!!!
Procedure:
• insert the RECOVERY CD in the CD drive while the computer is on
• if the CD does not start automatically, the start order of the drives has to be checked in
the BIOS set-up
starts the booting procedure from the inserted CD, the following message is shown:
! ATTENTION !
D:\>
16 SDG-7_1_6_engl
• Enter the word recovery (the y and z keys may be reversed!) and strike the ↵ key; the
recovery programme will be started.
Attention: this input having been confirmed, all data on the hard disk will be deleted
irretrievably!!!
• The progress of the recovery procedure is indicated in % by a blue bar and can take
up to 15 minutes!
Do not actuate the keyboard and the mouse during this procedure!
• When the recovery procedure has been finished, the drive letter “D:\> “ is indicated at
the monitor.
Remove the CD from the drive and start the ALC anew using the RESET button.
Enter the valid user name and the password for the
main user authorization to install the ALC
programme.
BIOS set up, setting the start order for the drives
• To enter the BIOS set up depress the del key during the first 3 seconds of the start-
up procedure.
• Store the modified settings in the submenu by actuating save & exit setup.
