2 Installation requirements

2.1 Installation site

Compliant Not compliant

Work bench:
 1800 x 800 mm (basic unit + autosampler)
 Resistant against wiping, scratching and corrosion, moisture resistant
 Load capacity min. 200 kg
 The table is placed so that all sides are easily accessible. A distance of at least 200 mm
to the next wall should be kept. Alternatively, a heavy lift roll-top-table is used.
The installation site is free of:
 Exposition of direct sunlight
 High dust exposure
 Strong mechanical vibrations
 Magnetic fields
 Draft
 Corrosive gases
The installation site has the following ambient conditions:
 +15 to 25 °C, optimum +20 to 24 °C (as constant as possible during measuring,
air condition recommended)
 max. 80 % relative humidity at 20 °C (prevent condensation)
 2000 m max. altitude
 Storage temperature: +5 to 45 °C
The installation site is at ground level or accessible by means of an appropriate lift.

If "not compliant", describe the respective conditions:

A transporter can drive to the installation building.

If "not compliant ", describe the respective conditions:

The device will be delivered by a carrier directly to the final site of installation. When the
device is delivered by this company, ensure that a competent person is present.

2.2 Power requirements

The four models of the PlasmaQuant MS product family are operated from a single phase alternating
current mains. Optimum device function strongly depends on a correct mains connection with adequate
cable cross-section. The mains connection shall be protected on the input (building) side with a circuit
breaker 25 A, curve C and must be installed prior to the delivery of the basic device at the installation
location. The instrument cable is 3 m long. The CEE surface socket (2 pole + E Blue 5UR 3 206-2 220/32,
Siemens) is supplied according to the terms of delivery.
To avoid sudden voltage fluctuations, do not connect the ICP-MS to the same electrical circuit as other
power-intensive devices.
If a single-phase electricity supply is not available, most three-phase supply systems can be adapted to
supply the correct line-to-neutral voltage in the specified range. To enable the IPC-MS to be used in areas
with power supply voltages of 100 V/115 V/120 V/127 V, connection to 2 phases is possible via optional
accessories. Contact Analytik Jena if required.

Compliant Not compliant

Maximum power consumption 3700 VA

Maximum current consumption 18 A

Fuse provided (mains side) 25 A, curve C

2.4 Exhaust unit

The exhaust unit is meant to remove hazardous gases generated during plasma operation, such as ozone or
nitrous gases. The instrument exhaust unit must be made of heat and corrosion-resistant material. Correct
exhaustion requires the connection of flexible ducting from your exhaust system to the exhaust port on top
of the ICP-MS. As the exhaust port moves when the interface door is opened during regular maintenance, it
is not possible to use a rigid duct connection.

2.5 Water cooler

A water cooling system is needed to circulate water to the ICP-MS induction coils, plasma interface
assembly, RF generator, and both turbo pumps.
 The water cooler can be ordered from Analytik Jena as a separate position.
 Other models are suitable as long as they fulfill the minimum requirements.

3 Device layout and space requirements

The four models of PlasmaQuant MS product family are compact devices designed for table-top operation.
The required space depends on the number of components needed for measurement. A minimum distance
of 20 cm from the device and system components to walls and adjacent installations must be maintained.
Components:
 The autosampler is installed next to the base instrument. Between these two instruments 30 cm of
distance is required to allow space for opening the interface door.
 PC and printer may be placed on a separate table.
 Due to the dissipated heat and possible noise it is recommended to place the water cooler outside the
laboratory. An extension of the cooling water tubing (standard length 3 m) is permitted if the minimum
pressure and the flow volume are maintained.
 The fore-line vacuum pump is a floor-mounted pump, typically placed under or behind the bench where
the ICP-MS is located. The pump can also be located up to 12 m away from the ICP-MS for noise
reduction. This is recommended for Clean Room operation. For installations more than 5 m away from
the instrument a specific electrical installation performed by a qualified electrical technician is necessary.
 A bottle for receiving residue sample liquids and autosampler wash liquid is placed underneath the work
bench.
