The Man who knew Infinity

Reflection:

After watching the movie I have doubts and confusions why that movie is entitled “The Man who
knew Infinity” and how does this title relates to the message of the movie ., without wasting my
time I did my research in finding answers to my question and it comes what Karl Mahlburg has
said that “Mathematics is a basic language of science. This means that we cannot describe,
measure, or understand natural or scientific phenomena without using mathematical language.
When a mathematician discusses "infinity," this is not just an abstract idea, but rather refers to a
way of modeling large-scale or long-term behaviour” so that is why the movie is entitled The
Man who knew infinity as Ramanujan demonstrated incredible skill in understanding these
limiting behaviors.. I have reflected so much in this movie and actually it would be one of the
best movie that I have seen. When Ramanujan said to his wife “Imagine if we could look so
closely we could see each grain, each particle(sand). You see there are patterns in everything”.
It brings an impact to me emotionally as Ramanujan tries to tell us that Mathematics is very
important in our daily lives. The beautiful reflection of the moon, the land we step in, the chair
where we seat, the house where we live and other things that we can see everyday..everything
is mathematics. This biographical/inspirational movie “ The Man who knew Infinity” talks about a
young genius (Ramanujan) who failed out of college due to his near-obsessive, solitary study of
mathematics. Despite of rejection and racism Ramanujan writes a letter to G.H Hardy, an
eminent British mathematics professor at Trinity College, Cambridge. Hardy recognizes the
originality and brilliance of Ramanujan’s raw talent and despite the skepticism of his colleagues,
undertakes bringing him to Cambridge so that his theories can be explored. Ramanujan decides
to leave his family, his community, and his young bride, to travel across the world to England.
There, he finds understanding and a deep connection with his sophisticated and eccentric
mentor and under Hardy’s guidance, Ramanujan’s work evolves in ways that will revolutionize
mathematics and transform how scientists explain the world. Ramanujan fights illness and
intense homesickness to formally prove his theorems so that his work will finally be seen and
believed by a mathematical establishment that is not prepared for his unconventional
methods. This movie taught me a lot as it reflected myself on what I am today. This movie tries
to taught us that we must not give up on our dreams that we want to achieve , even on
rejections and circumstances in life. I have also reflected that it is not easy in achieving our
goals as this movie teaches us that every accomplishment needs a great sacrifice as what
Ramanujan did, he sacrifice his love for his family and wife in order for him to achieve his goal in
life. I also reflected that we must value life as long as we are breathing we must have a good
impact in the society as what Ramanujan did for good, Even in small things that we can do to
the community because every little things that we can do results a positive impact to the
community and most of all this movie taught me that even how great man you are, how genius a
person can be and how powerful you are in this world there is one person that is greater of us
all and it is God.
