WRITING EXERCISE:
Writing Task (go to Checklist)

Writing Paper Part 2. Task Type: Report

Question
You have been asked to write a report for the World Information Organisation on the following
topic:

What are the greatest threats to the environment in your country today?

What are the solutions?

Write a report (Between 220-260 words)
What you need to do to pass
Read our checklist first to understand what the examiner is looking for in a good answer.
Ideas for writing
Ask yourself the following questions to help you get started:
 What environmental threats are you going to write about? Make a list of three different
problems to write about.
 What solutions are there? For each problem you have identified, list something your
government could do to help.
 Is there anything that companies should be doing, as well as ordinary individuals?
 How are you going to organise your report? Are you going to write about all the problems in
one section/paragraph and the solutions in the next one OR have a separate section for each
problem and solution? You decide!
Drafting and proofreading your work
You should look at your first draft of the task and decide:
 Have you answered the question fully?
 Is the layout and organisation appropriate
 Is the language accurate with a good range of structures?
 Is the style appropriate and consistent?
 Will it have a positive effect on the reader?
If the answer is 'no' to any of these questions then you will need to do some more drafting!
