PRACTICE 3

Week 35

Read the story below and answer questions that follow.

There once lived a poor cart maker. He was only getting a few orders for making
carts, so his family had very little. One day, he took his family and left for a new town. Along
the way, they found a pregnant camel. The cart maker realised that it probably could not keep
up with the rest of the caravan.

The cart maker took the camel to their home in a new town. The cart maker fed the camel
and took care of it until it gave birth to a healthy baby camel. Once, the baby camel grew a little bigger,
the cart maker tied a small bell around its neck.

The cart maker decided to sell camel milk. He began to make enough money to support his
family. During the next few years, he was able to buy a few more camels. When a female camel gave
birth to a baby camel, he would tie a small bell to its neck.

One day, the camels and the baby camels were grazing in the field as usual. The sound of the
bells attracted the attention of a tiger. The curious tiger followed the sound to the field.

Meanwhile, the adult camels kept reminding the baby camels to stay close, so they could
protect them in case of danger. They knew that the sound of the bells could attract the attention of
predators. Most of the baby camels listened to the advice of the adults but some strayed.

Hurry! I see a tiger in

the bushes over there!

The adult camels surrounded the baby camels, so the tiger couldn’t attack them. However,

one baby camel was by itself. The tiger spotted it and chased after it. Some strayed.
