Chapter 29

After the funeral of Edgar Linton, Nelly and Catherine are mourning in the library. They both agree that
a permission for Cathy to stay at Thruscross Grange is the best option, but they think it was too
favourable arrangement. Suddenly Heathcliff entered the library without knocking. Catherine wanted to
rush out, but Heathcliff managed to catch her arm. He wanted Catherine to come home. He tells Nelly
that he bribed the sexton to open the grave of Catherine so he could see her again. After that, he tells
Nelly how he could feel Catherine’s presence after she died. How he feel the sigh of someone while he is
digging Catherine’s grave alone on the evening of her burial.

Chapter 30

Nelly visits Wuthering Heights, but she doesn’t see Cathy there since she left the Grange. Joseph doesn’t
let Nelly see her because Cathy is busy and Heathcliff is not around. Zillah tells Nelly that she doesn’t like
Cathy because she thinks Cathy is arrogant. Zillah tells that one day at the Heights, Cathy tried to
convince Heathcliff that Linton is dying, but apparently Heathcliff didn’t want to spend money for a
doctor and tells that Linton’s life is not worth the money. Then Linton dies. Cathy mourns for months.
When she gets downstair and joins Hareton and Zillah, she is angry with Hareton for touching her. Here
is the end of Nelly’s stories.

Chapter 31

Mr. Lockwood goes to the Heights bringing a note from Nelly to Catherine. Heathcliff is not home, but
he will be home at dinner-time said Hareton. Lockwood drops the note on Cathy’s knee on purpose so
Hareton doesn’t notice it, but Cathy toss it off and asks loudly. Cathy murmurs of her former home.
Lockwood persuade Cathy to say something for Nelly. Cathy replies that she would like to write a letter,
but she doesn’t have any material for writing, not even a single paper. Cathy mocks Hareton for being
stupid and accuse him envy of her intelligence and then destroys all of her books. Hareton walks out of
the house with anger when Heathcliff comes in. Heathcliff invites Lockwood to dinner. Heathcliff calls
Cathy to bring cutlery for Lockwood and then order her to eat dinner in the kitchen with Joseph.

Chapter 32

In September, Lockwood is invited to devastate the moors of a friend. On the way there, he realizes that
he’s close to Gimmerton. Lockwood decides to visit the Thruscross Grange. Upon arrival, Lockwood
discovers that Nelly is not at the Grange anymore. She has moved to the Heights. While the
housekeeper at the Grange is making lodging room, Lockwood goes to the Heights. There he meets
Nelly. Nelly tells the story after Lockwood left the Grange. She tells that after Zillah left she was
summoned to Wuthering Heights by Heathcliff. Cathy changed her behaviour and started to take
interest with Hareton. Cathy gave Hareton a wrapped book with an intention of Hareton to forgive her.
If Hareton took it, she will come and teach him how to read.
Chapter 33

While they ate their meals, Nelly whispered to Cathy to mind their interaction with Hareton as it will
annoy Heathcliff. Heathcliff is mad at Hareton and Cathy because they pulled out bushes to plant
flowers. Then Cathy said to Heathcliff that she and Hareton are now friends, and Hareton will defend
her. Heathcliff saw the resemblance of his Catherine in Cathy, and him in Hareton. Hareton told Nelly
about something in his heart, he felt that he had changed in some ways, but he didn’t know what that is
yet.

Chapter 34

Some days after that, Heathcliff left the house all night. When he arrived, Heathcliff spoke to Cathy, but
he looked different than the usual. Heathcliff looked bright and cheerful. Then he refused to eat
anything and looked so creepy. Heathcliff wanted to meet Green to make some legal inquries. He
haven’t made his will and who he leaves his property to. He tells Nelly how things should be after he
died and how he should be buried. At dusk, Heathcliff went to his chamber. Throught the night they
heard Heathcliff groaned and murmured, but they were too afraid to open the door. Eventually Nelly
opened the door and found Heathcliff already dead. The doctor didn’t know what is the cause of his
death. Nelly didn’t say about Heathcliff didn’t eat anything for four days as it would make trouble. Nelly
says that Cathy and Hareton will be moving to the Grange after they are married, and Joseph will take
care of the Heights. On the walk home, Lockwood notices three headstones on the slope next to the
moor. They belong to Edgar, Catherine, and Heathcliff.
