PRESENT SIMPLE

Afirmativ:
The present tense is the base form of the verb: (Prezentul simplu este forma de
baza a verbului):
I work in London. = Eu lucrez in Londra.
But with the third person singular (she/he/it), we add an –s: (La persoana a 3-a
She works in London. = Ea lucreaza in Londra.
Eg:
I work = Eu lucrez
You work = Tu lucrezi
He works = El lucreaza
She works = Ea lucreaza
It works
We work = Noi lucram
You work = Voi lucrati
They work = Ei lucreaza

Interogativ:
 We use do and does to make questions with the present simple. We
use does for the third person singular (she/he/it) and do for the others.
(Folosim “do” si “does” pentru a face intrebari la prezentul simplu.
Folosim “does” pentru persoana a 3-a singular (el/ea) si “do” pentru
celelalte):
Eg:
Do I work? = Lucrez eu?
Do you work? = Lucrezi tu?
Does he work? = Lucreaza el?
Does she work? = Lucreaza ea?
Does it work?
Do we work? = Lucram noi?
Do you work? = Lucrati voi?
Do they work? = Lucreaza ei?
Corect: Does she like pizza? Incorect: Does she likes pizza?

 We use do and does with question words like where, what and when: (“DO” si

“DOES” pot fi folosite alaturi de cuvinte ca: “unde”, “ce” si “cand”):
Eg:
Where do Angela and Rita live? = Unde locuiesc Angela si Rita?
When does Rita usually get up?
 But questions with who often don't use do or does: (Intrebarile care incep cu
“cine” de multe ori nu folosesc “do” sau “does”)
Who lives in London? = Cine locuieste in Londra?
Who plays football at the weekend? = Cine joaca fotbal la final de saptamana?

Negativ:
We use doesn't for the third person singular (she/he/it) and don't for the others.

Eg:
I work – I don’t work = Eu nu lucrez
You work – You don’t work = Tu nu lucrezi
He works – He doesn’t work = El nu lucreaza
She works – She doesn’t work = Ea nu lucreaza
It works – It doesn’t work
We work – We don’t work = Noi nu lucram
You work – You don’t work = Voi nu lucrati
They work – They don’t work = Ei nu lucreaza
!!! Corect – He doesn’t work. Incorect: He doesn’t works.
 We use the present simple to talk about: (Folosim prezentul simplu
pentru a vorbi despre)

I'm nineteen years old. = Am nouasprezece ani.

He lives in London. = El locuieste in Londra.

 something that happens regularly in the present: (ceva ce se intampla in mod

regulat in present – o rutina, ceva repetitiv)
